If you are looking for something a little different to play, and haven't tried a picross puzzle, then World Mosaics 3 Fairy Tales is worth a try, especially at hard to beat casual games club low price. The game, the third in a series, follows its predecessors by offering a storyline filled with puzzles sprinkled along the way.

What exactly is a picross puzzle? If you have ever played sudoku, then the concept of picross may come easy. If you haven't, don't fear - there is only a small learning curve, and fortunately a tutorial to get things started is available. The game is based on a grid of squares, with clues thrown in to solve the puzzle. The object is, to use the clues found on the top of the grid with the clues on the left of the grid to determine how many squares in the grid itself should be full, and how many should be empty. Marking locations in the grid is done by using the mouse.

So how does the story tie into the game? Well, as fate would have it, while you were doing some reading in the library, when an old book of fairy tales catches your interest. As the book is an enchanted book, you are taken in and transported into new worlds - all of course based on the tales within (including the Frog Prince, Babe the Blue Ox, Sleeping Beauty, and more). From this point, you must then begin to solve the puzzles by returning tiles to their locations (spaces on the picross grid) in effort to return order to each of the tales. Naturally, solving one level, pushes the game further through the story. For those that aren't interested in the fairy tale portion of the game and simply want to play picross, the story can easily be skipped.

World Mosaics 3 Fairy Tales doesn't contain anything new or groundbreaking that wasn't seen in the other titles. The game itself is essentially quite similar to those of the past, with a new story twist and different puzzles. Picross players won't find anything too overly or impossibly challenging in the game, however, some of the more complex puzzles do require some extra thought. Overall the title provides ample entertainment across 12 different levels.

Picross is available for both the Windows PC and for the Mac (Apple OS) at popular online casual gaming sites. A downloadable limited demo version is also available for both platforms.
