World Refugee Day, June 20, 2010 - Don't Just Remember Them, Say a Prayer for Them

Mary Naylor confirmed
Refugees huddle by campfires,

Despair burning in their eyes,

Like the fire flames flair

As they crackles in the deepening darkness.

Frightened, frantic children cry out to parents,

Whose voices are forever stilled.

Tired, wounded victims of rape,

Considered disgraced, are disowned by their .

Families, Others are treated like criminals as

They desperately seek work in lands

Once owned by their forefathers.

Some walk over the bodies of their

Brutally murdered neighbors and family

And the desecrated remains of children and babies.

Starvation shuffles along Refugee Road,

Clad only in skin wrapped around bone.

Sunken-eyd Disease, ragged and wretched,

Wobbles at his heels, with no tears to cry,

As he gasps and sighs for water.

God of All,

Take our prayers

and crush them until

They glow white hot.

Release them as birds

Of hope, and let them nestle

Inside the weary hearts of refugees.

God of all,

Take the sound of our prayers,

Multiply them until they toll and ring

And sing like bells. Let them peal and congeal

Until they pour out love and compassion,

And let it spill and flow into the

Sorrowing hearts of refugeesl

Amen! Amen!
