There have been years due to rain or natural disasters where the World Series has been played in November but never has MLB scheduled games in November. In the year 2001 following the terror attacks on New York City the World Series was played in November due to the tragedy.
According to the New York Times the late baseball has a lot to do with television and revenue. In 2007 FOX sports requested that the series open in the middle of the week rather than on the weekend. The shift in starting the game during the week instead of on the weekend caused extra days off in earlier rounds. By doing this MLB had to tweak it's calendar which caused baseball to be played later and later.
Earlier this year in the first round of the national league playoffs one game in Denver, Colorado, was postponed due to snow.
For baseball players the season begins in February and if a team makes it to the World Series can end in November. Nine months out of the year baseball players are dedicated to the game.
The concern about late postseason games is going to be a big concern in Minneapolis. Beginning next year the Minnesota Twins will be playing in a new outdoor stadium. Up until now the Twins have played baseball inside a dome.
According to the National Weather Service below sub freezing temperatures and snow is not uncommon for Minneapolis. There are baseball teams in cold weather cities but those teams have domed stadiums or retractable roofs. The Toronto Blue Jays have a retractable roof. If it wasn't for the roof the Blue Jays at times would never be able to play playoff baseball.
As long as ratings and money rule baseball it appears as if baseball players and fans better get used to wearing long sleeves, long underwear and stocking hats.
