World Vision - What Do They Do?

Matt Ellis
World Vision is a charitable organization that aims to help the lives of all people living in poverty. They work on long term projects as well as emergency relief and the sponsoring of children. An example is in Papua New Guinea. They are working on the water quality and quantity, basic sanitation and health care needs.

World vision has many methods of reducing global inequalities in 96 countries with over 22500 staff worldwide. One of the biggest ways recently is the grain appeal. This is dedicated to saving lives in Africa by donating grain. This will help the people of Africa by training new farmers with sustainable agriculture techniques, donating grain and grain tools, teaching communities about nutrition and the care of grain and giving malnourished children nutritional food.

Another program is the Peru Urban AreaDevelopment Program. This is where world vision supports the community in basic daily needs like doctors, nurses and basic health care. Teachers and schools for education. Access to clean water without diseases crawling through it and basic sanitation.

Another method they are using to reduce inequalities in developing countries is child sponsorship. This is where people sponsor a childe by giving only a few dollars a month to give the Childs community the money to build things that will change the Childs life like clean water wells, building health clinics and improving the communities basic sanitation. Another small part of your donation will go towards raising awareness of poverty in your country to raise the inequality reality and influence others to donate to world vision as you did.

There are many ways in which world vision communicate and influence the developed country public in many forms like advertising, sponsoring, web pages and fund raiser events. One example of this was the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami. World vision organised a fundraiser concert including singers, bands, celebrity entertainment and other performances to influence the Australian public to donate to the Asian tsunami cause 14 days after it occurred. They influenced the public by showing it live on TV as well as being able to be there with easy ways to donate through Internet, mobiles and phones to speak to celebrities and make requests to involve the public and influence them.

Another way is TV advertisement. World vision often runs adds about sponsoring poor children and communities and to aid natural and political disaster areas. These are often showed during harsh, global shows to further bring the reality of inequalities to the public and influence them to donate. Another way they influence communities is through their Internet site. This may not be seen by most people who see their advertisements and concerts but it gives the people who9 are interested a detailed account of there workings and influence them to donate, become a staff member and many other things.
