World Voice News Scam

Formerly USA Voice

Recently I responded to an ad for a job as an online reporter for an organization calling itself World Voice News. About a month after I applied, an email was sent to me saying that World Voice News believed I might be a good fit for the position of reporter. They requested that I set up an interview that would take at least one hour to complete. During the interview, I would need to be in a completely uninterrupted environment with a computer available. That sounded good until I told my mother about it. She said that she thought she had read something about a company called USA Voice that was a scam. I promised her that I would look into it before providing World Voice News with any more of my personal information.

I began by doing a Google search of World Voice News. Immediately a site called "The Truth about World Voice News" popped up in one of the spots that Google places sites who have paid to show up first - the blue background at the top as well as on the sides. This site was placed there by World Voice News and claimed that World Voice News was being slandered by disgruntled former employees. This was interesting to me because none of the slander was visible after an initial Google search. World Voice News was telling me about the slander through their defense of it.

There were actually three sites set up to defend against these charges in the paid section to the right. The Truth about World Voice, Facts about World Voice, and What Is World Voice were all pretty much the same site with different names. I am going to speculate that this is done to make it even more difficult for those investigating World Voice News to find the bloggers who have made claims that they were ripped off by this organization.

I did a similar search of blogs about World Voice News. This is where I found what my mother was talking about. A blogger named Toby Getsch provides the information on his blog. He states that USA Voice is an 'elaborate scam' using the job application to phish for information. The Washington Post has done an article exposing the phishing scam, and shortly after the article came out, USA Voice changed its name to World Voice News. Mr. Getsch provides a number of links to other sources who say they were scammed by this company. One man wrote 114 articles without being paid for them. He waited several months for the payments they claimed would be going out monthly. They never came.

I decided to listen to the people on this one and miss my 'interview.' If you see an ad for this company on Craigslist or some other place, do your own research to decide whether or not to waste your time or risk identity theft.

  • World Voice News was exposed by the bloggers who were tricked into providing personal information.
  • USA Voice is World Voice News with a name change because USA Voice was exposed.

I too have fallen for this scam. My problem is that I apply for so many jobs I can't remember who a applied for. Well I recently got a phone call from a recruiting agency that claims to handle over a 100 employers. Well they asked me about my phone number, address and e-mail, so I will probably be getting bunch of junk. Lets hope this is all I get. It is a good thing that they did not ask for my soc security #. I was getting leary about the call so I have not done anything further. They gave me a website so that I can finish my application. I think I am not going to go to it. Does anyone have any information on how to fight back? I think I am going to report spam on my e-mail account. That is all I can think of at this moment.

I JUST received an email from them and my first instinct was to check them out and I am happy I did! I am glad that I came to this site also. Have a good day everyone!

I just got an offer from them too. Looks real appealing, however I'll always Google anyone I get an offer from. My first hint of this being shady was not seeing an "about us" link on their website, as any legit firm would have. Total Scam.
