World of Warcraft is an MMORPG, or massively multiplay online role-playing game. It is one of many games adapting Gary Gygax and J.R.R. Tolkien's works to create a fantasy realm with mycological creatures and fictitious lands. You create a "Character", or toon, and explore the realm. Each race, and class, have different abilities, strengths, and weaknesses. For instance a warrior seems touch, heavy armors, lots of big weapons, and lots of abilities like rend that causes enemies to bleed for rounds after the attack losing them health. But their weakness is magic! They have no healing, no pets, no flaming bolts, etc.. where as a warlock has great magical power, and pets, but no armor to speak of and a very limited range of weapons. This is to balance game play and was made popular in Gary Gygax's work "Dungeons and Dragons". The MMORPG genre has many formats from this type, fantasy, to futuristic space compat. The common factor in all these is YOU are a single character exploring the same realm, or universe, as millions of others. This is possibly the most addicting feature of all MMORPG, the realms constantly expand and change.
