World of Warcraft: Grouping

When Playing in World of Warcaft, Grouping is Key: Here Are a Few Suggestions to Help You Make the Most Out of Your Group!

In World of Warcraft, groups are formed when players feel that they need to work together for a common goal, or when a mob is too tough to take alone. If you don't know how to group in World of Warcraft, you won't get very far. The very nature of the game is social, so by that token you're going to need to know how to handle yourself in a social interaction or a group. In a group, every class and character plays their own part, and it's very important that you know yours. If you don't, you could cost the rest of the group their lives! (well, their in-character lives).

To start a group, one player will target another player and either type /invite or right click on them or their portrait and invite them the the group. While in a group, players share experience and loot. You didn't think that everything was going to you did you? You're both now working towards a common goal, so everything is split down the line 50/50. You can have other people in your group too, with a maximum of five players. Some people believe you should only have enough members in your group to take down that encounter, and anything else just leeches your experience. I say, it's about having fun. Invite all of your friends are go exploring! Odds are you'll have more fun.

When there are more than two players in a group, the loot goes in a cycle naturally. When you kill a mob together (monster), players all take turns looting so everybody gets a chance. It's also important to note that if you have a full group (5 members), you'll get an experience bonus! This is one of the steps that Blizzard has taken to encourage social interaction within the game. Everybody wants more experience, so if you have enough friends to get that full group for five going, you're going to be blessed with a faster leveling up experience. Pretty sweet deal huh?

Knowing your role within the group is very important. Each class has it's own set of abilities and it's own place within a group. For instance, Priests most often are the healers of the group because they're the best at it. Warriors or Paladins will keep all of the monsters on them because they can take the most damage due to their ability to wear Plate mail. Hunters, Rogues, Mages, Warlocks, etc do damage. Your place in the group relies heavily on what class you choose at the beginning of the game. A bad group is not going to kill very many monsters, because the warrior wont get many heals, the monsters will be beating up the cloth wearers, etc.

Overall, grouping in World of Warcraft is a very rewarding experience IF...everybody knows what they're doing. If you still have more questions about grouping in World of Warcraft, ask some of your friends or other characters online! That's what the game is all about - interaction! Go out and interact!
