Fresh off the zeppelin from Tirisfal Glades, you aren't given much of a chance to acclimate yourself to Northrend before being thrust into the harsh realities of the conflict. Speak to High Executor Anselm as soon as you arrive in Vengeance Landing and he'll send you out to perform one of the most grisly necessities of wartime, disposing with the deceased.
Dealing with dead bodies is an unpleasant part of any conflict, but when you're at war with the Lich King, they present an even more pressing danger. At any moment, they could be reanimated and used in an attack against Vengeance Landing. This, naturally, concerns the High Executor, and so he immediately asks new arrivals to head out and deal with the problem in the best possible way, by handing them a torch and pointing them towards the battlefield.
Nice to know you have a nice burial to look forward to should you fall in the conflict, eh?
World of Warcraft "War is Hell" Quest
You'll find the High Executor patrolling near the cannoneers on the Southern side of Vengeance Landing in Howling Fjord
. He hands you a torch which appears in your inventory, and it's this special torch you'll have to use to dispose of the bodies of those who came before you.Your targets are found strewn about the field West of the settlement, between Vengeance Landing and the Vengeance Lift.
Rest in Peace
All the dead bodies around the area are of course going to attract wild animals, so be prepared to take care of a few hungry worgs as you roam around. The battlefield is covered in them.
The corpses are on the ground, and appear with grey words above them just like a lootable corpse does. You'll have to target the corpse you wish to burn, get close to it (practically standing on top of it), then use the torch in your inventory to set it ablaze. There are a lot of corpses to find, and you get credit regardless if you're burning Human or Undead corpses, so don't be picky.
Keep moving from corpse to corpse, taking care of any worgs who get in your way, until you've cremated a total of ten. Once that terrible but necessary business has been taken care of, ride back to Vengeance Landing and High Executor Anselm.
Return to Anselm
Your reward for the World of Warcraft "War is Hell" quest is 20,000 experience, some Hand of Vengeance reputation, and the gratitude of the High Executor.
Now that you've proven your worth, Anselm has decided you're worthy of more important tasks. Congratulations, you've just been promoted from grave digger to messenger boy! Keep it up and you'll be digging latrines for the army in no time.
