World of Warcraft: Retribution Paladin PvP / Paladin Builds

It's Retribution Time...Baby

Thomas Kearo
The Retribution Paladin is not for the PvP weary. It's going to be a hard class to play, and it's going to be jam packed with smashing your hot buttons. The Retribution Paladin isn't like playing some of the other classes in World of Warcraft. You're not going to be able to just set back and hit 2 buttons repeatedly (like rogues). Oh No! It's going to be an intense battle, but if you're up for it...let's get started with the Retribution build!

Tier 1:

Benediction reduces your mana cost of all of the instant cast spells in your arsenal by 10%. Have you ever examined how many of your spells are instant cast as a Paladin? go ahead. I'll wait....Yeah! There are a lot of them, and more importantly, you're going to be using a lot of those instants in PvP. Retribution Paladins aren't known for their mana pool, so you'll need to save all of the mana you can!

Tier 2:

Heart of the Crusader gives you essentially a 3% better chance to critically hit after you judge something on an opponent - which is going to be practically from the moment you start the battle until the end. Improved Judgements reduces the cooldowns of your judgments by 2 seconds. This might not seem like that big of a deal, but when you're judging 4 or 5 times a battle, that'll shave 8 to 10 seconds off. It adds up.

Tier 3:

Conviction is another 5% chance to critically hit on top of Heart of the Crusader. That's a whopping 8% on top of your natural critical strike rating. Not bad at all Captain. Vindication gives you a chance to reduce your enemies attributes by 20% after a strike - essentially makin them 20% less effective against you. ha! Seal of Command is one of the bread winners of the Retribution Paladin tree. It's going to give you another judgement to throw in your opponent's face - and it's a high damage one!

Tier 4:

Eye for an Eye forces your opponent to take some of that critical strike damage they just dealt to you back to their face. It doesn't get any better than making an opponent kill themselves. Sanctity of Battle gives you yet another 3% better chance to critically strike. That's 10 in all so far. I can't think of another class besides Mage that gets this much crit from one tree off of the top of my head. You're in a good position with critical strike rating so far. It also increases your Crusader Strike damage by 15% on top. Crusader Strike is going to be one of your bread and butter damage moves, so that's always a good thing.

Tier 5:

Two Handed Weapon Specialization is fairly simple. You just deal 6% more damage. Hey, let's take it. Sanctified Retribution powers up your Retribution Aura to a point where it's useful against opponents. Rogues are going to be completely frustrated with it since they have such a fast attack speed. Druids are foiled by this as well.

Tier 6:

Vengeace has the capability of increasing your damage by 10% after dealing a critical strike 3 times. I wish it didn't have to stack, but hey it's a very good talent. I guess we can't have our bread and eat it too. Divine Justive gives your hand of Freedom a 100% chance to dispel a stun. With all the stuns being thrown around in PvP, this seems like a no brainer.

Tier 7:

Repentence is your out for crowd control as a Paladin. Yeah, I know it's not that good, but hey, it's all we have. It's enough time to get a heal off, etc. The Art of War increases your Judgements and Crusader Strike damage by another 10%. Now that we're accumulating all of these talents, you should start seeing a considerable increase in your overall damage, not to mention your critical strike rating. This is what you're going to need to keep seeing if you're going to be successful in PvP. Having this damage and that high of a critical strike rating is important because it allows you to gear up with Strength for attack power.

Tier 8:

Fanatacism increases your Judgement critical strike chance by 18% EIGHTEEN PERCENT! This is an amazing talent and I'm sorry, if you don't take it you should be slapped in the face (ok, not really, but still!). Ssanctified Wrath increases your critical strike rating of Hammer of Wrath by 50%! Gah, this is incredible!

Tier 9:

Sheath of Light boosts up that spell power. That's important because you're going to so focused on Strength, you're not going to have any room for intellect. Blizzard gave Pally's this so they'd continue to be well rounded. Crusader Strike is finally here! This is the bread and butter of Retribution Paladin DPS people!

Tier 10:

Righteous Vengeance deald 30% more damage when you critically strike over 8 seconds. This is great not only for the damage, but Rogues and Druids can't stealth when this is affected them. Very sneak indeed Paladins!

Tier 11:

Divine Storm is an AoE swing that also heals you and your party for 25% of the damage caused. I said earlier I guess we can't have our bread and eat it too, well I was wrong. With this move, you've got all the bread you need, so open up!
