World of Warcraft: Rogues in the Newest Version of the Game

Choosing, Gearing, PVP and Leveling

Jerry
Rogues are a class that many people never used to like, because they happen to have some unfair advantages in player versus player battles. However, now, more people tend to get more frustrated with Paladins and Death Knights, so much of the heat has been removed from the rogue. However, in the next patch, 3.1, the rogue class will become much more powerful as a whole.

Choosing Race
When it comes to choosing the race of your rogue, there are a few things to keep in mind. However, since most rogues are rolled for pvp purposes, I recommend rolling a class that has some nice abilities for player versus player. Human and Night Elves, for example, have some major advantages in Player versus player because of their racial abilities and buffs. Night elves have higher agility, as well as the ability to shadowmeld while in combat or out; a move that works similar to stealth but doesn't allow you to move about. Humans have increased expertise with many of the weapons rogues will use, as well as have the ability to remove all fear, stun, mind control, traps, slowing, etc. on a low 2-minute cool down. If you're planning on going Horde, Troll rogues have increased critical strike chance in a few ranged weapons, as well as higher agility. They also have the ability to greatly increase their attack speed on a low cooldown. Undead rogues have the ability to become completely immune to all fear and charm effects for about 15 seconds, which is great for going up against warlocks; making them almost completely useless against you. Blood elves are up for debate about rogues, but their ability to silence everything in a radius is nice for both pvp and pve.

Leveling
In my opinion, leveling in the spec that suits you best is what is going to allow you to do the most efficient leveling. Many people say combat is best for leveling, however, there are other specs that allow you to do quite significant damage. Assasination has some awesome crits for leveling, and sub will allow you to quest much more efficiently and avoid mobs that you would have to take down if you were a different spec. If you go sub or assasination, you can also quite easily pvp whenever you feel like it.

Gearing
Gearing a rogue is extremely important, as they are a class that is very dependent on their gear. Make sure to always keep a really slow dagger in your main hand, to greatly increase damage on backstabs, ambushes, and mutilates. Agility is your primary dps stat, and stamina will help keep you alive while doing just about everything. You can only wear leather, so your ability to take a hit is dramatically reduced. Focus on stuns and stats; not your armor.
