World Wrestling Entertainment Being Sued by Fan

Over Injury that was Sustained Ten Years Ago

Spy Radio
According to wrestling news source a "Kentucky-based Courier-Journal newspaper is reporting that World Wrestling Entertainment is being sued by 18-year-old Ronald Basham III". Basham was a fan who attend the Judgment Day Pay-Per-View (PPV) back on May 21st, 2000. Basham was injured during the Iron Man Match that took place between Triple H and The Rock. According to the article "Johnson pushed another fan down and caused her to fall on Basham, which resulted in Basham suffering a leg injury". At the time of the incident Basham was only 7 years old. Basham recently had surgery on one of his knees, which led to him filing the lawsuit.

After reading this article a few questions come to mind. Why wait ten years to sue? How come Basham's parents never filled a lawsuit on his behalf? Did doctors think that his leg would heal on its own? I'm unable to answer those questions because I'm not a doctor nor could I tell you what his parents were thinking. However, I was able to go on youtube and watch the match.

During the Iron Man Match I noticed The Rock and HHH take the match into the stands around 7:05. I did not see Johnson push a fan over because it was hard to get a good look at what was going on. At 7:42 someone may have feel over. You can see the security guard turn around and look down, while the three fans behind him also take their eyes of the match to look down. Since the camera angle does not give a clear shot and a lot of questions remain up in the air I could see this lawsuit being settled out of court.

Nice report. I agree that there's something fishy in this case.

There is definitely something fishy about this. Who waits 10 years to sue and why?

Once upon a time I was such a wrestling fan. Have Jim Duggan story on my profile, have plans for more:)

There is no statute of limitations because Basham was a minor at the time of the incident.

There should be a statute of limitations that would prevent such a lawsuit as this, but it depends on many things, including where the suit is filed. As a fan of the WWE, I have seen many matches go out into the stands, but is there a reasonable expectation of safety? And if this incident did, indeed happen, a suit should have been filed at the time of the incident. I would like to know why they waited so long. But, if the plaintiff cannot prove fault with the WWE, then I would not settle.
