For the first time in many years, fans were treated to the reunion of Team Extreme, the Hardy Boys (Matt and Jeff Hardy). The brothers were split from tagging together at last year's draft lottery (an event that mixes up the rosters in the brands to enable new storylines to keep the show successful). The brothers were successful in this event. However, from a fan point of view their tag team spirit is gone. They were not on the same high paced rush as they used to be when teamed together.
Another fan favorite was another "one night only" reunion of Degeneration X (Shawn Michaels and HHH). They went to the limit with their mockers better known as "Priceless" (third generation children of retired famous wrestlers). To the praise of the crowd, DX won the match on this night, but to protect the reputation of the younger talent, DX made the match look like they were taken to their limits in this contest.
Perhaps the best point of the night was the television return of Shane and Stephanie McMahon (the children of Vince K. McMahon, current chairman of the WWE). These two have been off the air since Stephanie went into labor with her and HHH's child a little over a year ago. Vince has staged two self-destruction attempts on his character over the last year or so (one being an exploding limo where Eddie Guerrero was found dead for real a few days later so Vince dropped that angle to pay tribute to Eddie, and the latest being an angle where the WWE entry ramp stage collapsed and later "falls" on him, as of which he has not returned to television).
As Shane went in the ring making matches, Stephanie was in the back walking like she owned the place and even confronted her brother about making decisions without her. Also tonight the current General Manager of RAW resigned much to the delight of everyone who watches the show, leaving the position of RAW GM vacant till further notice. Stay tuned I have a prediction for what is about to happen as the WWE starts the next 800 episodes on television. Can you say the McMahon's are back and taking control of the program once again!?! It would be about time!
I was twelve years old when I watched the very first RAW episode on USA from the Manhattan Convention Center on January 11, 1993. Fifteen years later at 27 years old, I am proud to be a flagship member of the RAW fan nation! I am looking forward to another fifteen years of Monday night Raw! Congrats to the McMahon's and all those involved with the WWE for being the single longest running episodic television program in history!
