Worldwide Campaign Against Meat Eaters: It Worked Against Smokers!

Meat Eaters Wearing Smokers Shoes

Sherry Tomfeld
Remember the campaign against smokers? It started quietly and grew to hysteria. From bans to added taxes, smokers were left to wonder what hit them. Tobacco was (and continues to be) a legal substance. Now, following the same pattern, a push has started against red meat.

The Internet and blogger kingdom will play a huge role in this campaign. It's already underway and growing. Medical statistics and studies will be thrown about as truths, with no input of who paid for them or if they are biased in any fashion. They will be read and accepted as gospel.

Campaigns against red meat will hit the kids in school. They will come home and accuse their parents of poisoning not only their family, but the entire world. They will be taught that the cow that was last night's burger was a bigger polluter of the world than the SUV in the driveway. Remember the push for kids to condemn their smoking parents?

Let's not overlook the guilt factor. Smokers were made to feel like criminals. As though they had personally gone out and killed people with second hand smoke. Well, meat eaters will be hanging by the same guilt tree. They will be vilified as consuming something that causes them to get cancer and burden the medical and insurance establishments. They will also be tried in the court of global warming, global pollution and global hunger.

We see how the Internet can help condemn those who choose to eat meat. Is there anything that the Internet can do to help the meat lovers? Yes. Ordering meat on the Internet is a growing business. People will order from the Internet rather than walk through the aisles of the grocery where they can be branded as meat eaters. (See the correlation with smokers yet?)

All of this comes at a time when livestock owners are starting to send their breeding animals to slaughter. Why? The gas, grain and hay prices are just too high to hang on. Meat prices are reasonable now, but next year, the prices will soar due to supply and demand. What a wonderful time to really spring the evils of red meat on the public!

Have you seen Subway's new ad? Anti burger for sure.

Mark Rosegrant of the International Food Policy Research Institute says he foresees a "stronger public relations campaign in the reduction of meat consumption-one like that around cigarettes-emphasizing personal health, compassion for animals, and doing good for the poor and the planet."

What's next in meat? Special interest groups are backing this campaign too. Americans are the largest consumers of meat. Within a year, documentaries will tell us that we are selfish and gluttons. That our cows and us are the main source of pollution and global warming.

First they came for the smokers and no one did anything. Next they came for the meat eaters and...

I'm from the south...we kinda like our steaks down here... I don't think I have to worry about getting dirty looks in my local supermarket when I buy my big, juicy steaks, rack of ribs and briskets for my summer smoker, cause they're all standing right there next to me and we're talking about barbecue and grilling tips and how to choose the best cuts! Bring it on Vegetarians! I'll make ya a steak that'll make you say "broccoli who?"

    Great thought inspiring article Bobby!

The Internet is chuck full of references..but here are a few to get ya started. Treehugger.com ..do a search. www.emagazine.com/view/?142 www.latimes.com/news/opinion/la_ed_methane15oct.15,0,1365993 www.guardian.com.uk/commentisfree/2008/jun/05/food.animal/welfare

Like I said, the Internet is full of anti meat campaigns. Some are vegan groups, some are Peta groups, some are environmental groups, some are green groups. The second page of this article gives a quote from the International Food Policy Research Institute. The subway ad was sarcasm on their part..sorry you missed it.

There are no good "points" here. This "article" doesn't cite any reference for it's claims other than beef being sold over the internet and a Subway ad that is anti-burger. Well, DUH. Subway doesn't sell burgers.

Use your heads, folks, and don't buy into unsubstantiated claims on the internet. That's how rumors get started.

This sorta thing'll never work. There's just too many hungry people around, and not enough food. Beef is by far more healthier than smoking, and there are some nutrients in red meat that are not found as much in white meat, such as vitamin B12...this sorta vitamin's better obtained through eating steak than a supplement pill. And that is complete bull that red meat causes cancer...matter of fact its the complete opposite. Its the fact that the junk food we eat and all these trans fats that they put into burgers, fries, etc is what's making people obese, and in turn obese people get sick more often than those healthy people that eat red meat (steak, roast, etc) but stay away from the fast-food places. AND don't smoke as well as being not exposed to second-hand smoke.

And did you know that a lot of the products that we use today are made from cattle by-products? Like...chewing gum, candles, deoderants, cosmetics, insecticides, paper, plastic, photographic film, toothpaste, soaps,

I still smoke and if they do that to beef.........well, we have a few acres to raise our own cattle too! Wonderful read. Good luck.
