This information is not meant to target or degrade any brand of candy and what you hand out on Halloween night is your choice. However, it can't hurt to note that some candy is definitely worse than others.
1. Worst "Fun Size" Candy Bar: Butterfinger - there no quicker way to swallow 100 calories, plus 4 grams of fat and 10 grams of sugar!
2. Worst Fruity Candy: Brach's Airheads (3 pieces). This candy is made of sugar, artificial flavorings and colors, plus trans fat! Basically, you are rewarded with 140 calories, 1.5 grams of fat, and 19 grams of sugar!
3. Worst Miniature Candy Bars: Twix Miniatures. One of these devilish good candies has ten-percent of the saturated fat recommended throughout an entire day! Chomp and swallow 150 calories, 8 grams of fat, and 15 grams of sugar! Yum!
4. Worst Chewy Candy: Brach's Milk Maid Caramels. This candy is mostly saturated fat, plus nearly impossible to get out between your teeth. Just four pieces of these innocent looking squares contain 160 calories, 4.5 grams of fat (3.5 grams saturated fat), and 16 grams of sugars.
5. Worst Novelty Candy: Reese's Pumpkins have about 2/3 more calories than a regular standard Reese's peanut butter cut. In other words, you are swallowing 170 calories, 10 grams of fat, and 16 grams of sugars!
But, hey, candy is the traditional treat for Halloween. And, if you don't hand out sweet treats you might become a target to get your house egged or coated with toilet paper!
Here's some candy-free treats that those Halloween goblins will love.
1. Temporary Tattoos. Kids love to sport tattoos on their faces and arms. Tattoos are not expensive and handing out sheets of tattoos or individual characters (cut from sheets of temporary tattoos) will make your treats the hit of the evening.
2. Glow Bracelets are another eye-catcher. Kids love wearing them, and parents won't object to this treat.
3. Play-Doh. Pick up a 10-pack of Play-Doh for under $7, and you've got seven great treats for those Halloween sacks. Besides a nice treat, they will have hours of fun making things with their dough.
4. Crazy Crayons. Colors now come in Star Wars figures, LEGO bricks and hot neon colors.
5. Sticker Books. No doubt about it, kids love stickers. Visit any the local dollar store and grab some sticker pads for just a buck each!
6. Glow-in-the-Dark Rings. Kids and adults love things that glow, and these spooky rings are great treats for both boys and girls.
7. Slap Bracelets is another good choice and is great for both boys and girls. You can find them in craft stores printed with an abundance of designs, such as vampires, pumpkins, hearts and many more.
8. Crazy Straws is another find at the dollar store. Some straws are decorated for Halloween, some in bright colors, and others in wild, crazy shapes.
