Worst and Best Oscar Nominations

2010/2011 Academy Award Nominations for Acting

Worst Oscar Nomination

The worst Oscar nomination is who was missing from the nominations rather than who got nominated.

I never thought I'd be saying this, but the biggest Oscar snub has to go to Mila Kunis for not getting nominated in the supporting actress category for her role in "Black Swan". And no, I'm not saying that just because she's hot. The fact she's hot is partly why I never thought I'd be saying "Oscar" and "Mila Kunis" in the same breath.

Frankly, I don't care how good of a performance Hailee Steinfeld gave in True Grit. No high school kid should be nominated for an Academy Award unless they fit in some sort of underdog category, and Hailee Steinfeld is no underdog.

Fourteen is too young to appreciate an Oscar nomination and too old for it to be a cute Oscar moment. Abigail Breslin being nominated for Little Miss Sunshine was cute. Hailee Steinfeld being nominated for an Academy Award for True Grit is just annoying. Annoying because that spot should have gone to Mila Kunis for her supporting role in Black Swan.

Unless the Oscar voters screw up another year and give the Academy Award for Best Actress to Annette Bening just because Hilary Swank kept stealing her thunder, Natalie Portman should win it for her lead role in Black Swan.

If you want to talk about someone who actually "supports" the lead, that someone would be Mila Kunis. The two actresses play off each other in the movie Black Swan. If Mila Kunis hadn't been so good in her part, Natalie Portman wouldn't have looked so good in her part either. The girl deserves some Oscar love for that alone.

Best Oscar Nomination

The best Oscar nomination goes to Jennifer Lawrence for her lead role in "Winter's Bone".

Jennifer Lawrence is a relatively new film actress in a good movie that not many people saw, so it would have been easy for the Academy to overlook her (especially in the lead category). If they had, that would have been a shame because she might possibly be the best actress under 25 in Hollywood. It's a little early to say for sure since she hasn't done too many movies, but her raw performance in the 2008 film "The Burning Plain" proves her Winter's Bone performance is no fluke.
