Worst Beverages for Weight Loss

Terri Beck
Nearly everyone nowadays is looking to lose a few pounds, and it can be easy to sabotage your weight loss. You may not realize it but the easiest way to gain weight is by drinking high calorie beverages. It is best to drink water and herbal teas and stay away from unhealthy drinks and high calorie beverages. Here is a list of the 5 worst beverages for weight loss.

1. Soda
This is pretty obvious! Soda is loaded with sugar and sugar makes you hungry. If your goal is weight loss, then you better stay away from these types of beverages. If you think that diet soda is better, sorry, you are wrong. The fake sugars used in these drinks are probably worse than real sugar. Fake sugar has been known to cause hunger and weight gain; therefore it is best to stay away from all types of soda.

2. Fruit Juice
Fruit juice is not a good choice for weight loss. It is easy to drink a lot of calories and not get full. One glass of juice can have well over 100 calories. If you are on a low calorie diet this can quickly add up. If you are on a diet, it is a good idea to skip the high calorie fruit juices. If you must have juice, drink a small glass of low sodium tomato juice a day.

3. Smoothies
Smoothies may seem healthy, but the reality is, they are some of the most high calorie beverages out there. A single smoothie can have over 500 calories. This is sure to ruin your weight loss plan. If you do have a smoothie, have one for breakfast. You can make a smoothie at home using non-fat milk, a banana and a small amount of peanut butter. This type of smoothie has about 300 calories and is pretty healthy.

4. Milk
It is okay to have one glass of milk a day, if you choose skim milk. Dairy products can be conducive to weight loss. A better choice than milk would be low-fat yogurt. It has about the same amount of calories and is much more filling. Try to choose an all-natural yogurt that does not have any fake sugars.

5. Beer
Beer will definitely ruin any weight loss plan, take it from me, I know! Depending on the beer, one bottle can have 250 calories or more. Any kind of alcohol will also make you hungry. If you do drink, stick with low-calorie beer, wine or hard liquor. Have only one beer, a glass of wine, or a shot of hard liquor. If you choose hard liquor such as rum or vodka, drink it by itself or with tonic water. Mixed drinks can be very high calorie.

Tips To Remember

• Drink plenty of water
• If you are tired of water drink herbal tea
• Use lemon or lime to add flavor to your water or tea
