Exposure

Laura Minning
In a time not so very long ago, there was a broken hearted young maiden who took it upon herself to cast her pain aside and begin her life again. She fled from the sorrows that had burrowed themselves into the depth of her own soul to a city that had given her a strong sense of comfort in the past. Her hopes for finding happiness in life had been renewed and her faith in love was soon to follow. Her life was stable and peaceful, but only for a while. A new man entered her life.

He was tall, dark and handsome. He was smart, funny and enjoyed making her laugh. He offered her friendship at first but then let his affections toward her be known. He asked her to dinner and cocktails one night, and she accepted the invitation with an open heart. The evening went well. They enjoyed each other's company so much that they decided to formally declare a courtship between them.

An evening of intimacy was soon to follow. He drove her to his home, which was far away from her beloved home - her haven. He gave her a tour and introduced her to his children, who had been conceived during a former marriage. She felt as though she was out of her element, and she felt uncomfortable about having an intimate moment with her new beau while his children were sleeping in the next room. She gave into the moment, however.

Her new beau had just finished tucking his children into bed and singing the youngest to sleep when he entered his own room to look in on his young maiden. He found her waiting patiently for him whilest sitting upon his neatly clothed bed. The lights grew weary and struggled to stay awake. Her body numbed as he gently pressed his lips to hers and embraced her. He lay her down and then without forewarning, the music from the dance of love making stopped.

He began to speak with her about matters that were very personal to him, and she, in turn, did the same. She spoke with him about her physical disabilities. She began to explain that she had low vision, and he interrupted. He informed her that he did not care to know of her past. She was with him now. He wanted to have an open relationship. He wanted no real commitments, but she was with him right now. These words were unexpected to say the least. They echoed throughout her body and forced her into a state of shock. She lie immobile and clad beneath his naked flesh.

He would discuss nothing further. His patience was gone, and her will lay dormant. He took great pleasure in gorging himself upon her exposed vulnerabilities. After which, all of the lumination in the room descended into complete darkness. They fell to sleep in a state of exhaustion.

Dawn broke into his window out of habit, and she found herself encased in his arms. All was not clear in the light of day. She had been hurt again, and she was greatly saddened by the secrets that the night was unwilling to keep. He saw her home safely. He kissed her softly. He appeared to be a gentleman again, but the damage had been done.
