Worst Hairstyles of the 2000s

From Barely There to Hairy Hair, These Are My Choices for the Decade's Worst Hairstyle Trends

Linda Riggs
Every decade has some scary hairstyles to laugh at and remember. The 2000s are no exception. From the beginning of the decade it was easy to see that there would be no shortage of giggles over some styles the stars decided to shine on us. Looking back at the past decade, I was able to easily put together this list of what I would choose as the decade's absolute worst hairstyle trends.

While I won't blame the stars themselves for the trends in hairstyling that came about, I will cite a few examples just for fun. We really can't blame the stars themselves, for we have no idea who it was that convinced them that they looked good in these styles. Here's my top ten list and the shameless guiltiest that sported the styles.

10. Dreadlocks :
Johnny Depp sported them in his pirate movies and I dare say he never looked so gruff as he did in them. These horridly dirty, stringy, frizzy locks are almost a sin when framing such a gorgeous face. Lenny Kravits also sported long dreadlocks this decade and it was amazing that he didn't end up with whiplash from whipping them around as he played guitar.

9. Pixies :
I've known since I was about five that very short hair is for boys and very long hair is for girls. It was a standard rule when I was a child. The 2000's weren't the first decade to break this rule, but it was broken by some of the hottest stars of the decade. Katie Holmes was one of the first to turn heads with this new look. She was stunning with her long locks but someone managed to talk her into the pixie look. Rhianna is another example of a star sporting this style.

8. Pixie with Extra Long Bangs :
This style is very similar to the pixie style cited above. The only real difference is that they've mutilated the style by adding ridiculously long bangs. It give a look of having had a haircut only to run out of time just as the stylist was about to do the front. The best example of a star that made this style popular in the 2000s is Posh Spice.

7. Cyndi Lauper Colors :
Adding streaks of incredibly bright colors became a style in this decade that reminds me of some of my favorite cartoon characters. Whatever made people think that adding a streak of color to their hair that would never even be considered close to natural looks good, is a mystery to me. Too many stars tried this style in the 2000's to blame just one or even a few.

6. Mullets :
It's amazing to me that this style was ever popular but that it became popular a second time in the 2000 decade makes me literally shake my head. I almost feel sorry for all the young boys that got this hairstyle simply because someone like Dawg the Bounty Hunter made them think it was hot. All I can add to my thoughts on mullet hairstyles is boys will be boys.

5. Bouffant :
This style makes me think of the old lady that ran a little corner store when I was young. I always wondered how much hairspray she had to use every day. It's a hideous hairstyle that requires the person wearing it to tease their hair till it stands several inches above their normal hairline. Amy Winehouse probably stands alone in bringing this style back to the forefront in this decade.

4. Mohawks :
I'll just state right here that this style was best reserved for hunting buffalo on the range. It's a style that manages to make even the beautiful Mr David Beckham look silly. Speaking of Mr Beckham, not only is this style one that I'll give him credit for bringing back in the 2000s, he also makes my number three spot.

3. Shaved Heads :
When I see an otherwise beautiful man shaving his head, all I can think of is Yul Brenner. He was so gorgeous that men literally went out and shaved their perfect heads of hair to imitate him. David Beckham was able to pull off this same stunt in the 2000's. When he showed up out on the field with his head shaved, countless men made appointments to do the same. Cheers to Mr Beckham for making two spots on my list.

2. Kate Gosselin Hair :
You know we're getting close to the number one spot when you hear mention of Kate's hair. This hairstyle has more women running around with spiky hair on top of the back of their heads than I care to see. I imagine there are quite a few unhappy husbands wondering where the back of their wife's hair went to. Kate is a doll and she can pull of this unique style but shame on the hairstylist that let so many other women believe they could too!

1. Britney Bald :
I know you were wondering what could possibly top Kate Gosselin's hair. Well folks, here it is, my number one choice for the decade's worst hairstyle. Miss Britney Spears takes the Pilots seat when it comes to horribly hairstyles by sporting the bald look for us in the 2000 decade. She's still beautiful but I personally beg her here and now to keep her hair for now on.

That's my entire list of the ten top worst hairstyles that the 2000s had to offer us. These hairstyles are simply awful but the celebrities that wore them in the 2000s certainly entertained us with them. I hope you get a giggle in remembering them and hope you remember to stay away from them the next time you make it to your local beauty parlor.

My nephew got a Mohawk then dyed it red. He's twelve. The do's in your list should be retitled to "The hair-dos of twelve-year-old wannabes!"
