High school is a tough and wonderful time in our lives. I remember my days in high school as if it was only yesterday. There were many good and bad memories. Some of them I would like to forget ever happened. I recall a day that is very vivid as if it just happened in the last few hours.
Bullying doesn't end the moment we reach high school. It only becomes worse. Much worse. Kids can be so cruel to their peers, especially teenagers. They can be mean and vicious. It can be a tough time for any child.
A child is never prepared for the bullying of another peer. The bullying can be for any reason. Teenagers are confused and do not understand their consequences for the painful actions they cause to others. I was a teenager back in the day and I was bullied by different people.
The worst day I remember it was after school and I was going onto the bus. I must have been a freshman or sophomore in high school. At the time in my life I hated riding the yellow school bus. No teenager likes riding the bus.
At this time in my high school experience I already had been bully quite a bit. I wasn't popular. I was just an average girl looking to fit in. Which never happened. On this day, it was a beautiful sunny day. As I was coming onto the bus, other children were seated and shouted with glee to be out of school for the day.
I happen to walk past a girl who had been poking fun of me for some time. My body tensed up with anticipation and fear. My leg accidentally brushed against her leg due to the seemly over crowded bus. As I continued my way to the back of the bus, I could hear her and her guy friend laugh and sneer. Till this day I will never forget what she had said to her friend. Her words were hateful and cruel.
She told him she had to burn her clothing all because I had touched her. Those words still ring in my head from time to time. Those words cut deep into my heart and soul. Words hurt deeper than any physical contact. I will never forget those hateful words.
The bullying changed my life forever. I will never be the same. It has made me a better person. Bullying doesn't help anyone. It only hurts and breaks down a person's self esteem. If you are a victim of a bully, do not let those painful words and events get you down. You should always remember you are better than them.
