Worst Reality Theory: Philosophers with Poor Explanations of Reality

SweetReviewer
Of the philosophers listed below, which do you think has the best (or the worst) explanation of reality? Support your choice by doing a critical analysis of the theory you choose in order to show in detail why you think it is the best or the worst.

Plato, Aristotle. Epicurus, Aquinas, Descartes, Leibniz, Kant, Hegel, Nietzsche, Bergson

Out of all the philosophers mentioned there were two in particular that I thought had the worst theory on reality, Epicurus and Nietzche but I believe Nietzche gave better reasoning (although I don't agree with him) in his explanation on the value of existence. Epicurus on the other hand I felt had no substance he simply says this world is purely accidental it came about because atoms collided to me is rather difficult to even consider this and that reality is made up of atoms. "Unchanging material particles" And denies that there is a divine being beyond space and time. He doesn't deny that there aren't any Gods, but he says that the "Gods" are there but don't care about us, so he got rid of the gods he believes the gods and our life in this world do not serve any purpose. I disagree with his theory I believe everything happens for a designated reason and thus everything has its purpose. Therefore, we couldn't possibly be in this world without a purpose what would be the point of even being. If there was a purpose why we were placed in this world then there's definitely a purpose why we're here and where we go from here. But Epicurus doesn't believe that, he says there was no design, no meaning no purpose.

He also says that death is immediate and that there's no life after death that we become content by removing the notion of immortality. I disagree because perhaps this theory was made up for one not to be fearful of dying. When one thinks of life like this then one eliminates anxiety or fears that one might have in believing that they are dying and where will they go? But it's my opinion that the same way there is a goal or purpose in doing anything in life like seeking a job or seeking knowledge there is a goal or purpose during and after life. This theory to me is purely a fictitious reality in the sense that is based on eliminating everything that we once had ever believed in filling it in with blasphemy. Because how can he say that we should avoid pain and seek pleasure but in moderation. It is obvious there is a purpose for this. why do we seek pleasure? Because we don't want any pain, since pain brings us down and deteriorates us slowly. But if there's no purpose to this life why bother living? He says one should just get through life with minimal suffering. This sounds like a chore one has to do and just gets through it although one doesn't care for it since it has no purpose.

His idea is to seek tranquility; again if there is no purpose for why he seeks tranquility if he's going to die anyway. Throughout this he attributes "purposes" to avoid suffering in order for him not to be miserable. Such "purposes" or reasoning for no pain are physical pleasures in moderation, tranquility, and pleasure of knowledge above all. To me this just doesn't make any sense if he seeks pleasure in knowledge is because he takes fulfillment when he knows new things and we know new things because we want to expand our minds and think abstractly this allows to get jobs, go to school, or want to do something in life. He speaks of friends as being important in our life and that they help with tranquility. This is clearly a purpose to life. When speaking of Justice he says nothing is right or wrong in itself. But to avoid the mental pain one shouldn't break rules or laws because we might not get away with it.

Finally, Epicurus theory has no substance I believe this was his personal opinion on life or reality. When he says avoid pain seek pleasure he is really saying avoid being unhappy seek happiness but how can one be happy if there is no purpose to this life? How can one see the light out of life and be content if we will die and have no immortality? That's clearly impossible when one doesn't expect something one will not do what it is they need to do to be happy. What I mean by this is if we human beings believe this world has no purpose then we will be miserable in this world without expectations of something more or something better, then we will not seek pleasure but experience pain and misery. His theory wouldn't have worked if were to follow it this is why I believe this was the worst one.
