Worst TV Bosses of All Time
To help determine the worst TV bosses, we'll use five categories to help break down each supervisors' traits.
Jan Levinson - from The Office
They say bosses only as good as the employees they hire, which is why Jan and not Michael makes the list. Not to mention, having a fling with your underlings is generally not considered a good thing in most corporate cultures.
Management Style: Typical corporate pencil pusher.
Personality: Does she really have one?
Leadership: Abuses her power.
Effectiveness: How Dunder-Mifflin stays in business is anyone's guess.
Other: Got drunk during a business meeting.
Boss Hogg - from The Dukes of Hazzard
Any guy from the south who wears all-white suits is usually trouble, and Boss Hogg is no exception.
Management Style: Scheming.
Personality: Greedy and obsessive - especially when it comes to them Duke Boys.
Leadership: Violently passive-aggressive, if that makes any sense.
Effectiveness: None of his schemes ever work out, so basically ineffective.
Other: Making Daisy wear those short shorts on her job at the Boar's Nest smacks of sexism.
Charlie - from Charlie's Angels (the TV show not the movie)
Okay, so Charlie was pretty cool. He seems like a nice guy. So why's he a potential candidate for TV's worst bosses?
Management Style: Distant, hands off. What kind of boss never shows up at the office?
Personality: Easy-going, laid-back.
Leadership: Sits back drinking Mai Tai's while his employees do all the work.
Effectiveness: Pretty effective considering all his orders come over a speaker phone.
Other: What kind of sexist hires only beautiful young women, and then refers to them as angels?
Mr. Spacely - from The Jetsons
Cosmo G. Spacely, president and CEO of Spacely Space Sprockets, is so tough he makes drill sergeants seem like ice cream delivery truck drivers. Not content with making George Jetson's worklife miserable, Mr. Spacely always found a way to interfere with George's home life as well.
Management Style: He's a 'yeller'.
Personality: Aggressive.
Leadership: Dictitorial.
Effectiveness: Highly effective. His constant threats to fire his employees over the smallest trivialities seem to work, but at a cost of employee morale.
Other: Worst comb-over in animated television history.
Alan Brady - from The Dick Van Dyke Show
No matter how hard Rob Petrie tries, he can never seem to please his boss, Alan Brady. Arrogant, vain and demanding, Alan Brady was a pain in everyone's side. But, at least he was funny.
Management Style: A ranter.
Personality: Overly emotional, highly critical.
Leadership: Always telling his employees to shut up.
Effectiveness: Most effective when he's not there, which fortunately is most of the time.
Other: The toupee. Gotta be the toupee.
Louie DePalma - fromTaxi
The little man with a big Napoleon complex, Louie De Palma was the boss everyone loved to hate. It's fortunate that Louie did most of his work from behind a cage.
Management Style: Mean. Just plain mean.
Personality: Selfish.
Leadership: Sexist, insulting and crude.
Effectiveness: No one at the cab company ever seems to work. They're always just hanging around the garage.
Other: Anyone who'd hire Reverend Jim, has a seriously lacks employee evaluation skills.
Charles Montgomery Burns - from The Simpsons
Evil. Not often does a single word encapsulate an individual, but Homer's boss at the nuclear power plant is just that. Let's not forget the time he tried to blot out the sun to make all of humanity dependent on nuclear power.
Management Style: Evil.
Personality: Evil.
Leadership: Evil.
Effectiveness: Evilly effective.
Other: Did I mention he's evil?

Post a CommentI vote for Louie DePalma. He was slime.
You must not omit Milburn Drysdale from the Beverly Hillbillies. The way that guy treated his secretary, Miss Jane, was abominable.
when I first saw the title... all I could think of was Louie DePalma great job!!!!
I don't think all TV bosses are jerks. Captain Stubing on The Love Boat was a pretty cool boss. Lou Grant on The Mary Tyler Moore Show was gruff but loveable. There are lots of decent bosses on TV, but where's the fun in looking at them? :)
So basically if you are a boss on television, you are a complete jerk.
mr. wick...ha!
