Worst Weather Site in United States is Mount Washington, New Hampshire

Here are 25 reasons why Mount Washington, New Hampshire is the worst weather site in the United States.

1) Three major storm tracks converge right on top of Mount Washington. Weather systems from the Pacific Northwest, The Gulf and the South Atlantic all dump horrendous weather on the peak.

2) Look at the photo of the ice - I mean weather station above that sits on top of the mountain.

3) The highest wind speed ever recorded on Earth outside of a cyclone or tornado occurred on Mount Washington - 231 mph.

4) Temperatures in winter have gone as low as -59 degrees. That's minus 59 degrees.

5) On January 16, 2004 the wind chill temperature on Mount Washington was -105 degrees. That's minus 105 degrees.

6) Mount Washington averages 311 inches of snow per year. That's 26 feet of snow every year.

7) The sun only shines 33% of the time on Mount Washington.

8) The highest temperature ever on the summit is 72 degrees.

9) The weather station on top has to be chained to the mountain so it will not blow away.

10) During the 1965-1966 winter 566 inches of snow fell on Mount Washington. That's over 47 feet of snow.

11) Mount Washington averages 102 inches of rain per year or almost 9 feet or rain.

12) On one day in February of 1969 the top got 49.3 inches of snow.

13) On one day in October 1996 over 11 inches of rain fell on Mount Washington.

14) You can ski on top of Mount Washington in Tuckerman's Ravine until June. Some might like that but it means snow lasts until June on top.

16) At least 137 people have died on Mount Washington.

17) The Average annual temperature on Mount Washington is 26.5 degrees. That's almost 6 degrees colder than the average annual temperature in all of Alaska which is 32.13 degrees. And 5.5 degrees below freezing.

18) The Average wind speed on the mountain is over 35 mph which makes Mount Washington the windiest spot in the United States.

19) On over 100 days per year wind speeds reach at least 75 mph - that's severe hurricane force wind speeds.

20) It has snowed on top of the mountain in every single month of the year including July and August.

21) Fog on the mountain is an almost daily occurrence.

22) Dozens of people have died on Mount Washington from hypothermia.

23) At least six people have been swept to their deaths on the mountain in avalanches.

24) In 1967 eight people were killed and 72 injured when the cog railway on Mount Washington derailed while going down the mountain.

25) People have died on the mountain from falls, ice falls and drownings making it one of the deadliest mountain peaks in the United States.
