Would I Send My Child Off to War?
Occasionally, I do feel as if some war and military veterans push their children in to joining and going to war. Mostly so that the child will "walk in their foot steps" and "be one of them". While I do not approve of making anyone join the military, I do support those who have joined. I think joining the military and fighting for our freedom is a choice that should be made by the individual joining and no one else.
It is my personal opinion that the military could take better care of our soldiers; give them better benefits, and better pay. It hurts me to see that a soldier is over in Iraq and other countries risking his or her life for me and you every day, but still makes no more then the average Joe. I have seen several soldiers go out and fight for 2 years straight, and come back with not a dollar more then what they left with because they still had to pay their bills back at home. It also pains me to hear they the soldiers have to by their own protective gear and pay for some of their medical. Hmm...lets see one more reason not to send my child off to war!
While I can not sit here and name reasons not to send my child off to war because there really aren't any other then the obvious; it's dangerous! All and all, I would have to stand firm on stating that I would never "send my child off to war" or even influence them to join, but I would support them with all of my being, if they chose to join.
Let me close this article by stating that I do support every soldier that has faught for our country, for our Nation, and for our freedom! God Bless you all!~

Post a CommentYou're straddling the fence, Stephanie. No one wants their child in a war where they could possibly lose a loved one. You also have to understand that joining the military is an individual choice and ultimately, war happens. That's why men and women who join are called soldiers! The military isn't simply about a career, it is an institution that trains people to fight and kill. Why we must fight is also a matter of opinion and frankly, opinions are of little importance when it comes to a soldier who must fight.
I am glad to see I am not the only one who feels this way!
I'd support my son joining the military but I would only support him going to war if it were to defend our country specifically or if HE felt it were for a similar worthy cause. And I agree, our troops should come home to more. They should be honored and celebrated...instead they are ignored.
Agreed, my father in law is a vet... he has health problems as a result of serving his time, yet ..even the VA Hospital would not give proper treatment. It angers me that our troops risk their lives, just to come home to nothing. I have a son who is intrigued by the military. While I support whatever decision he makes, I'd prefer him to stay home.
Our Troops deserve better!
