Would You Share Your Toothbrush?

The British Would, According to Survey

According to Medical News Today, a British survey done in May of this year revealed that over 60% of the British population would be willing to lend their toothbrush to their partner, their children, their relatives, friends, even their favorite celebrity!

This was especially true of women. Men were much more possessive over their toothbrushes, since only about half of them were willing to lend them out. Women in every country seem to be more giving and more apt to go out of their way for other people, but this toothbrush thing is taking it a little too far.

The mouth contains untold numbers of viruses and bacteria, and sharing a toothbrush can pass on anything from the common cold to hepatitis B or AIDS.

"It's worrying that so many people either aren't aware, or don't care, that by sharing a toothbrush they could be running the risk of catching a serious infection. Especially those in London, who are most likely to share their brush with their favourite celebrity!" comments Abby Bowman from HSA,a health plan provider in England.

I don't know if this statistic would hold true in America. But it's intriguing to imagine. In England, if Mick Jagger or David Bowie or one of the members of Coldplay wanted to borrow my toothbrush, I
certainly would let them, but then I would sell that sucker on Ebay. I definitely wouldn't use it again. Here in America, can you imagine sharing your toothbrush with, say, Paris Hilton or Lindsay Lohan? I don't think so. Not even Brad Pitt or George Clooney gets to brush their pearlies with my toothbrush, but I may start keeping a spare on hand, just in case.
