Wouldn't it Be Nice - Episode 1

I was singing along to Celine Dion in my car, pausing only during the high notes I failed to reach, when all of the sudden a sports car whizzed past me. I knew I was going a little over the speed limit, so this vehicle must have been going at least 90 mph. After releasing my white knuckled hands from the two and ten position, which is the defensive stance I take in situations where I think I might get into a wreck, a thought occurred to me.

Wouldn't it be nice if people were required to paint their phone numbers on their vehicles. I could have called this sports car up and said, "Hey, jerk, you might have a death wish but I certainly do not." Now, I know this probably wouldn't be enough to reform the rude sportscar driver, but it would be pretty annoying to receive half a dozen calls during your 90 mph cruise.

Afterwards it occurred to me that there might be some other usefulness out of this idea. For instance, I can call up the minivan owner who left their kids unattended in the parking lot, "CPS is on their way." I can even call up the dually truck that had to take up two parking spots, one of which is handicapped. "Sorry sir, I accidentally hit your truck trying to park."

In the end, all I'm asking for is some system of holding drivers accountable for their actions. People think that because they are in a vehicle they are anonymous. To me, anonymous is dangerous because there is no one to take the credit or responsibility.
