Wow! Kindergarten Isn't What it Used to Be

It seems like just last year, I myself was heading off to kindergarten. Fresh new faces, not a care in the world. Learning my ABC's. And look at me now, waking up at 6:30am getting my twin boys off to school.

Going to kindergarten was a shock for me this year. I always thought that the taxes we paid every year were to go to the schools, and what about the lottery? Isn't the money for that suppose to go to the schools as well?

"That will be $90 in book fees for each student this year." Said the lady taking all the wonderful paperwork I spent an hour filling out.

"What! for kindergarten?" I thought to myself.

Wow, who knew that this exiting first year of school was going to break the bank. I mean, geez, what kind of books do the kindergartners need? And not to mention the school supplies everyone has to buy before school starts.

Gym shoes, apparently, the kids need special designated "gym shoes". So now we have to go out and buy the boys another pair of shoes. And we all know that is not cheap. Especially for two.

Pictures, yep its picture time already. And buying pictures for two, well you get the idea.

In all seriousness my boys really seem to like kindergarten. It is however a full day of it. They learn a lot more than I remember learning at that age. They even have technology class, which is the computer lab. Its amazing to know that my boys are going to be smarter that I am. They come home very exhausted and then they have about a half an hour of homework to do a day. I don't ever remember doing homework in kindergarten.

At the end of the day, I know that it is best for them. And I look at the progress they have already made, and I realize that it is all worth it in the end. I'm so happy to say that all of this chaos is paying off.

So if you are discouraged about the money issue of school, or even the homework that your child brings home. Just sit down and take a look at your little one, and know that the teachers are well trained and doing their very best to get your child ready for the everyday challenges and technology in the world today.

Dont agree at ALL. People seem to think that it is sooo great to ship their babies off to kiddie college at a month old so they become "advanced and smarter and quicker and brighter"sooner. WHY? Why is it so important to them? For generations and generations, kids started school in Kindergarten, and it was as much play as it was learning. the PURPOSE was to introduce kids to a new routine.... being away fro home, new adult to listen to, etc. Of course, this was ALSO before mothers happily started sending their kids off to be raised by someone else so they could get back to their big important career. The thing is, generations ago, we started school at 5, not 2 weeks, Kindergarten was about everything...now it is basically just another grade. That "intro to the system" is no longer a priority, because so many kids are shipped off at a month old, that by the time they hit kindergarten, it is like 3rd grade fo them. And generations ago, high school graduates has more knowledge, more sense, more skills than they do today at graduation. What does this tell us? Your kids arent getting smarter earlier. By the time they hit jr high, they'll only know how to do math with a calculator. Calculators are part of a school list now! When I was in school they were not even ALLOWED! All those who think kids are getting smarter earlier need to stop and read the statistics. Graduates have less knowledge now. They dont know a FRACTION of what our grandparents knew at their age. This new and improved system is anything but. I homeschool.
