WOWIO: Source of Free EBooks on the Web

Tina Samuels
Wowio, located at www.wowio.com, began business in August of 2006. Its headquarters are in New York and Pennsylvania and houses its engineering operations in Texas. With the mission of being the first and only source of legal downloadable free ebooks. These free ebooks are from noted publishers and are all copyrighted. Yet all are still free to download to people in the United States. This is a boon for students as a source of both textbooks, research manuals, and for assignments.

Site browsers can open an account for free, and they only need to have the latest edition of Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the ebooks. Adobe Acrobat Reader is a free reader application that is widely used and distributed. Adobe Acrobat Reader makes ebooks (copies of books that you can read via computer, ebook reader, or cell phone) able to be read on the applicable device. Wowio ebooks cannot be read on anything using 40 bit encryption like the Documents to Go on the Palm devices. The ebooks are usually between 5MB and 20MB in length, a very easily transferred amount of data.

After your free signup you will be limited, at the time of this writing this is current, to 5 free ebooks a day, per reader. Some you will be allowed to print off or copy/paste. Some you will not, it will depend upon the partner. If there is a book you'd like to see on the site, you may request it, but there is no guarantee that they will indeed get the book for you. Still it is worth a shot.

To get your free ebooks you will add the books to your shopping cart and hit order. Complete the order process and hit the submit button. While you are waiting for your email (as all orders will take a few minutes to process and then send out the email with the downloadable link to the book in it) you can browse for more books to keep in your cart. There are times when Wowio emails get tossed in the Spam folder, so if you haven't received your email in a reasonable amount of time check there.

If you cannot open your Wowio ebook from the downloaded link that will be in your email you either do not have the latest copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader and will need to install it for free, or you have a bad file in which case you can either redownload it and see if that helps or just reorder the book entirely.

Wowio is a great new service that has tons of fabulous and free books at your disposal. What are you waiting for??
