Wrapped
He held his heart tightly,
where it could not be broken.
Safe within the warmth
of his closed fist, it beat steady,
without a flutter.
Many came.
Few stayed…
but for one who could see
into his heart,
despite the protective layer.
Inch by inch,
he slowly let her inside,
sometimes but for a moment…
and in that moment
his heart would flutter.
In that moment,
he could feel.
