Wrapping Up All My Children: What Happened Before the Final Week

Eliza Wynn

As All My Children prepared to end its 41-year run on broadcast television, several storylines came to a head. These are the significant events that took place just before the show's final week.

Erica
Erica went to Los Angeles, ostensibly to promote her upcoming book; however, her main goal was to find out whether her old lover Mike Roy was still alive and one of David's patients. She visited the address she'd found, but he wasn't there. Opal's friend Sam Brady made a phone call on her behalf and found out that the construction bills had been paid by Project Orpheus.

While in L.A., Erica signed on with an Oscar-winning producer to make her new book into a movie.

Jackson
Jackson was aware that Erica was trying to find Mike Roy. He claimed it didn't bother him as long as she didn't pretend she wasn't.

Opal
Opal's old flame Sam Brady came to town for a class reunion--and to see whether Opal would be interested in rekindling their romance. They decided to take a Hawaiian vacation on the spur of the moment.

David/Project Orpheus
Zach continued to make and receive cryptic phone calls, often reminding Kendall that she'd agreed to go along with his plan. Meanwhile, he and Ryan continued to fight publicly about David and Project Orpheus.

Greenlee persuaded David to take her to the warehouse to stop Zach, who was out of control. Not long after they got there, Ryan arrived. Zach pulled a sheet off a body; it was Griffin, and Zach felt justified in killing him to protect Orpheus. Ryan and Zach fought, Zach pulled a gun, and Ryan was shot.

David tried to reason with Zach. When he failed, he said that the casino partners had been right to hire Ricky. As a silent partner, David had known about the imminent plane crash and gone to California to save Greenlee if she happened to be on the plane when it exploded. Hearing this, Zach pointed the gun at David and shot him point blank.

Stunned, David soon realized he and Ryan were both fine; the gun contained blanks. Ryan had David's confession on a recorder. Griffin sat up, tired of playing dead. Kendall and Cara arrived, with Jesse not far behind to arrest David.

Zach/Kendall
Decked out in some of his Red Wings clothing, Zach tried to settle down to watch a game with Kendall, who resisted until he finally had to force the issue. The hockey season hadn't started yet; he really wanted to show her a video he'd made of them and the boys. Kendall gave him a new wedding band and declared them officially "back."

Ryan/Greenlee/Emma
Emma finally accepted Greenlee as her stepmother. Ryan was still determined to make David give up the names and locations of his remaining two patients.

Angie/Jesse/Lucy/Maya
When Maya asked Tad to find the baby she'd left in a police car, Jesse realized he had to "fess up" to Angie. As he tried to explain everything, Angie argued, yelled, cried, and accused him of lying. Finally, she ordered him to take her to their baby's grave.

After spending the night lying at baby Ellie's grave, Angie told Maya the truth. Maya was torn; she wanted to move out with her baby but hated having to take her away from such good people. Angie talked her into staying with them a while longer.

Believing the stress of losing both Ellie and Lucy would elevate Angie's blood pressure, Jesse told David to cancel her eye surgery. Angie found out and was furious with him for going behind her back, pointing out that it wasn't his decision to make. She met with David and filled him in on what had transpired. After she assured him that she was physically prepared to go through with the procedure, David agreed. Angie was in surgery for several hours but had to wait to find out whether the procedure was successful.

Brot/Natalia
Brot proposed to Natalia, and she accepted. Her ring was hidden in a donut cake.

Adam/Brooke
Adam and Brooke returned to Pine Valley to deal with JR after Colby told them how bad things were getting.

Tad/Dixie/Krystal
Tad and Dixie declared their undying love for each other, and Dixie moved into Tad and Krystal's house. They both continued their attempts to rein in JR while constantly proclaiming him to be a "good man."

With Dixie's return, Krystal decided it was time to move out and get a place of her own. She found a place nearby, which meant the girls could easily go back and forth.

JR
JR continued on a downward spiral, losing the company, the house, his inheritance, and custody of his son. JR hid a camera in Marissa's room and tried to blackmail her by threatening to put the sex video of her and Bianca online.

When Colby was going through her father's things, she made the mistake of showing JR a box containing Adam's gun collection. JR stole one of the guns and went to get A.J., but Dixie stopped him. She told him why she believed Babe was one of David's patients. JR argued but apparently thought it was possible; he had someone follow Griffin, thinking the doctor would lead him to Babe.

Bianca/Marissa
Shortly after spending one night together, Bianca and Marissa decided to buy a house. Marissa was worried about the video, but Bianca persuaded her not to let JR intimidate her.

Madison/Scott
Scott continued to rebuild the gatehouse, and he and Madison became closer. Adam disinherited JR, leaving that portion of his estate to Scott instead.

Cara
After treating Agnes Eckhart (portrayed by the show's creator, Agnes Nixon) at the hospital, Cara received a huge gift: Agnes called her contacts in the State Department and arranged for Cara to get her green card based on merit, not marriage. Cara immediately told Tad that she was filing for divorce so that he would be free to be with Dixie.

Feeling run down, Cara started to worry that her cancer had returned. Although she vowed not to sleep with David again, the two of them became close as she waited for the lab results. Cara was both stunned and thrilled to see the results. She didn't have cancer after all; she was pregnant!

Amanda/Jake
After her hysterectomy, Amanda was depressed about not being able to have more children. When she and Jake agreed to adopt a child, Cara put them in touch with someone who could help them adopt an orphan from a war-torn country.

Colby/Liza
Colby moved in with Liza, who was tired of getting no respect and decided to turn over a new leaf.
