When we pulled into the restaurant I have to admit that all three of us in the car were like "well this is quite the operation and we got our first taste of what a big deal Wright's Farm is. There are huge parking areas surrounding the main building, which is big by itself. There are hundred of cars and there are even people directing traffic.
Wright's Farm Meals
The menu at Wright's Farm is pretty well set even before you arrive. You'll get fresh rolls, a garden salad with italian dressing, shell pasta, french fries and roast chicken, all served family style at each table. Not only that, but you can eat as much of each dish as you want, as the wait staff will keep brining out new portions as you eat up what you have.
After we arrived and sat down, the rolls came out along with the salad and both were really good. They have a great house italian dressing and while we made sure not to fill ourselves up on the salad, we all had several servings of it and I kept having some throughout the rest of my meal.
The chicken is where it really is though, at least for me. It was cooked to the point where it just fell off the bones and it tasted great. The shells were okay with the homemade sauce. The fresh fries were also really good, but I enjoyed the chicken the most out of all the choices.
We just had water and iced tea with our meals, but you can also get soda and there are a couple of bars so you can get an alcoholic drink too.
Our Experience
I wish I had known a bit more about Wright's before we arrived since I wouldn't have had a late lunch and arrived without a big appetite. When we go back, I'll make sure I am ready with an appetite though, since this is the kind of restaurant where you want to be able to enjoy yourself and take some generous portions from the platters.
I thought it was a great idea for the group of us too. We all met up at Wright's Farm and we were able to have a table where we could all sit together (there were eight of us).
One thing to realize though, which I didn't know until we went to pay, is that at the restaurant, they only accept cash or checks. So you have to make sure you have enough cash with you to pay for your meal, which is roughly $12 per person (along with a tip and any drinks). Thankfully, there is an ATM in the restaurant, which I had to use.
Dining Areas
There's space to fit like 1,200 people at Wright's Farm in various dining rooms and when we were there, the place seemed like it was completely filled up. Before the dining areas are several different waiting areas that people wait in to get a table. You sign in and get a number and then have to listen to the announcer call numbers as tables become available. You might think with 1,200 seats there wouldn't be a long line, but we were there on a Sunday night and the waiting rooms were practically all full as were all the dining rooms. It was simply amazing at just how many people there were there. There's a bar in part of the waiting room so you can get drinks while you wait.
In Conclusion...
If you like roasted chicken and don't mind waiting a bit for a table, check out Wright's Farm in Harrisville, Rhode Island. Like my friend said, it really is an experience, one that I'm glad we had. I'm sure we'll be back, if only to bring other friends who haven't had a chance to experience it.
