Women in particular love the bracelet-esque charm of the wrist tattoo. They are sort of like permanent jewelry, in a way. The best thing about a wrist tattoo is that it is very versatile and can say a lot about your personality. The message is given through your choice of design and style.
If you want to express your defiance against social norms, or if you like a minimalist way of life, then maybe a simple solid black band around the wrist is for you. If you want something that expresses your soft feminine side, choose a floral chain. A band of interlocking shapes and figures around the wrist could say that you are a very balanced soul. And if you want to get across that you are not just a pushover girly girl, consider something harsh like flames or barbed wire. Whatever you want your wrist tattoo to say about you, however you'd like to say it, you can do it with a wrist tattoo.
Wrist tattoos are also really versatile in that you can work in whatever additional images you want within the pattern. Scattered among the main pattern (vines or whatever), you can print the letters of your name, all the signs of the Zodiac, or whatever else you want to put in the tattoo. Perhaps some people will miss the small additions to your tattoo, but you'll love having a meaningful and intricate work of art where you can always see it.
Prior to sitting down at the studio and rolling up your sleeve, make sure that's exactly what you want. A wrist tattoo is going to be with you forever and there will be little that you can do to hide it if you change your mind later on. Even if you wear long-sleeved shirts, your tattoo will still be visible whenever you move your arm and your sleeve shifts. You need to choose a tattoo that you're sure you want and you're sure to be proud of forever.
Lastly, consider if you yourself are a good candidate for a wrist tattoo. Like it or not, some people don't look as good with a wrist tattoo as others do. You need to have a relatively attractive-looking wrist and hand if you want a tattoo that really compliments you. Slender wrists connected to smooth and beautiful looking hands look best with wrist tattoos. Those with chubby wrists, stout fingers, or difficult fingernails, perhaps a tattoo in another location would be a better way to express yourself.
