After the response I got to my article Make a Living Writing for Associated Content, I decided to write an article that would help people to write articles faster. After all, the faster you write articles, the more you can get done in the amount of time you have set aside and the more money you'll make. I did receive several responses from people who stated that they wished they could write faster. I have to admit, when I first started writing for Associated Content, I would take several hours and do research and it didn't pay off. After a lot of trial and error, I have come up with these tips which I use every time that I sit down and write for Associated Content. These tips will ensure that you will write articles faster and make even more money.
Write about what you know. I mentioned this in my other article, but wanted to further explain why this is so important. When I first started writing for Associated Content, I wrote an article about childhood obesity. I spent a few hours researching the article and then spent even more time writing the article. What was my offer? Well after all that work, I received $6. I know that after reading that, a few of you are beginning to panic and thinking, "Well, this isn't worth my time." Stick with me. Another article I had written, when I first started working for Associated Content, was an article about the area I live in and the attractions that are available. For this article, which required very little research, I received $12. That's a big difference. To write faster articles, simply write about things you have done, places you have been, your occupation, etc. You will be able to write these articles faster than topics you know very little about. There have been times I have written articles faster than other articles, even when they were topics I already knew about. Sometimes you are very passionate about something and it is very easy to write about and will allow you to write your article much faster. For example, I wrote an article the other day about my religion and was able to write it in about 15 minutes.
Write when you are most alert. It doesn't pay off to write an article when you are half asleep. Not only will the article not be as good as it would had you been alert, but you will find that it takes much longer. To write your articles faster, schedule time to write when you are most alert. We all have times of the day in which we are more awake and able to work faster. Unfortunately for me, that's during my Intro to Literature course. That's why, if I have time during class, I'll brainstorm articles to write when I get home.
Brainstorm. This is one of the best tips I can give you to help you to write your articles faster. I can't count the times I've sat down and started an article just to find that there either wasn't enough information to write an article or the article wasn't worth writing. Before I write an article now, I always brainstorm. This allows you to write your articles faster because you aren't sitting there try to figure out what to write next. The best part about brainstorming is it can be done anywhere and at anytime. I always have a notepad and a pen with me, wherever I go. Then if an idea hits me, I can write down that topic and any bits of information that I'm thinking about. To make it even easier, carry a small voice recorder with you. For example, I was able to come up with 7 holiday gift guides while I got my oil changed.
Write top ten lists. These seem to be the easiest articles to write. I am able to write these articles much faster than normal articles because it allows me to organize my thoughts more easily. When I write these articles, I try to write at least 50 words for each idea. So the article will end up being at least 500 words. These don't have to be the top ten whatever, they could be ten tips for…., ten ways to……, etc. Heck, you don't even have to stick with the number ten.
Time yourself. This works really well and will help you to write your articles much faster than normal. For example, I will look at the clock and if it's 6pm I will tell myself that I want to get 6 articles written by 9pm. This keeps you going and sometimes you'll finish up faster than you expected. If you have more ideas, keep writing and reward yourself if you write more than you had expected.
Work under pressure. Okay, this doesn't work for everyone. But, with a previous promotion, I worked on it for a couple weeks off and on and then on the last day, wrote ten articles on that one topic. Sometimes you will write much faster if you're under pressure.
Take typing lessons. Sometimes ideas will come faster than your fingers can type. If you can't type at a good speed, you won't be able to write your articles any faster. Sometimes it just takes practice. Right now I can probably type 100 words per minute. So if I've done my brainstorming and have a topic I know about, I can write a 1000 word article in 10 minutes. I'm telling you, this will really help you to write your articles faster.
Writing your articles faster doesn't have to mean writing articles that aren't good quality. If you follow these steps, especially the brainstorming step, you will be able to write your articles faster and make more money. More articles per hour equals more money per hour. Good quality articles will make around $8 an hour, if not more. If you write about what you know, you might be able to write 4 articles an hour. Now that makes writing your articles faster much more tempting, doesn't it?

Post a CommentThis was great to know. I really love the first article of the series about making a living doing this. I really needed to see someone say they do it on a regular.
Love these tips. I am sure that they can help a lot of writers, including me.
Great tips, Amy. I am finding my background writing in print for so long slows me down. I spend too much time researching -- an old habit I cannot seem to break. Toss in a hefty dose of dyslexia and you get a very slow typist, to boot! I am s-l-o-w, but will try to apply more of your tips.
Great Amy!
Always good advice, Amy :-)
I agree that the faster you can type (with limited errors) is a big deal when it comes to writing a lot of articles in a short amount of time. Thanks for the great article!
This has been an issue for me, I average 3 articles a day sometimes but I haven't gotten the speed down to where I can write more than a few a day.
I like to write as many articles as I can in a day. The typing speed is a big factor in this.
Amy, your articles serve as my mentor to successfully writing for AC. Thanks and God Bless you!
I simply can't write all that fast. I keep seeing how people are pumping out articles in half an hour and I can't do it. Especially if it requires research.
