Write a Vision

Writing Nonfiction and Inspirational Work

Adrienna Turner
Write from the heart and what God has put in you. If He has given you a vision, go with His plan, not yours. Sometimes, it is hard for us to hear the truth, since we feel what I write is only from God. Yet, he does everything in decent order. Therefore, as writers, we are to do everything in a certain order. We are to write complete sentences, not run-on sentences. We have to research our content, the Bible, and other biblical related resources. Once we use these resources, we have to cite our works in footnotes or at the end of the book to give credit to those sources and authors. Otherwise, we will face plagiarism or copyright infringement issues. We cannot argue then, we got it all from God when we may be citing someone else's work. Even quotes need to be cited properly, if used in our manuscript or writings.

Do not be afraid to find an editor. We have know the differences with editors: substantive editing (heavy editing); copy editing (medium editing); and proofreading (light editing). If needed, do not be scared to take writing courses for nonfiction writing to have concise and clarity to your writings. Article writing can be also helpful to get a feel about your writing skills and building a following audience.

Yes, God has planted His message through your writing, but no one wants to read or purchase a book with grammatical errors. We are laborers of our work, take good care of it. We have to add or look at Scriptures only based on the topic at hand. We have to write it in plain English for the masses to understand what God has laid heavily on our hearts. Be willing to make the necessary changes, without compromising to specifics that God has given you, but revisions and rewrites will be required. We also want to engage the audience in our writings, not something dry and dull where no one wants to read it. Do not be afraid to spice it up with your real life stories, or those you know that have something in reference to what you are writing about, or use current events and news sources too.

Define your target audience or readers? Sometimes, share your testimonies to make it plain to the readers and your audience. They can place themselves in your shoes and what God is showing in His message. Write the vision God has given you, you are the vessel, and now plant the seeds for others to receive the message.
