WriteitNow 3.1: Great Writing Program for Novelists

I've Owned WriteitNow for a Year Now and Aboslutely Love It. Here's Why

Ann Olson
A friend tipped me off about WriteitNow one year ago, back when WriteitNow was only on its second installment. Now one year later, I own the third installment of this writing program and use it extensively in fiction work. If you're a budding novelist, WriteitNow is absolutely pertinent when organizing and successfully writing a complete novel -- here's why.

What is WriteitNow?
WriteitNow, now on its third installment, is a professional writing program that simply organizes your novel. In addition to organizing chapters, it also organizes character biographies, events, ideas, locations, and notes. The organization itself is why I love WriteitNow -- this feature is unparalleled in few other writing programs. I use it to organize information in fictional work, and I find it's essential for writing a great novel. This program is especially useful for people participating in NaNoWrimo.

What are WriteitNow's Features?
WriteitNow has numerous features.

* Simple interface for recording information. WriteitNow operates cleanly, organizing information with labeled tabs. It's easy to navigate and all you need to do is type in information, save, and close.

* Detailed tabs. Unlike other writing programs, WriteitNow records detailed information within these tabs. For example, the character tab displays the title, gender, full name, usual name, date of birth, and the description of the character -- to name a few. There's more than that, including add-ons if you buy the complete version, but we'd be here forever if I detailed it. It's very, very extensive and complete.

* Time stamps. WriteitNow allows you to set the time and date of your story date. It's pretty neat, and setting it shows the age of your characters, along with other neat things.

* Customization. If you don't like the format of the program, you can modify it through the setup button. I prefer it set in 10pt Arial (that's just me) because the original font setting is too big for me. You can also change the background color.

* Easy export. After you're finished with your story, you can export it either as an .rtf, text, or HTML extension. I prefer .rtf.

* Charts. This is pretty neat. The charts tab details the events happening in your story (which is why you want to use that tab) by date. It's a great visual to see how your story is progressing.

The best feature in this program is definitely the organization tabs. I can enter numerous information about characters and events and reference it later.

Why is WriteitNow Better Than Other Writing Programs?
Two reasons: price and usability. I've used more expensive writing programs than WriteitNow, but WriteitNow definitely wins over all of them. First off, it's 1/3 of the price than other professional programs out there. It currently retails at $49.95. Most writing programs run over $150.00, and that's if you're lucky. The infinite usability from this is also essential for all novelists, organizing everything easily and effortlessly. This is something I personally use with my writing pursuits, and it's helped me get over my writing block. Hopefully it can help you get over yours.

Along with being a great writing program for novelists, WriteitNow is a great organizational tool for detailed information such as characters and locations.

Oh wow, I really do like this program! I just checked out the tutorial, and this would be much easier than creating spreadsheets. I'm going to tell some of my writer friends about it as well.

*sigh* I meant "too" not "to."

I tried using Excel to organize the characters in "Change for a Twenty" and "Round Trip," but after awhile, I got so mixed up. When I think back on it, I wonder if I was that confused trying to keep up with characters, would the readers be to? I found out that some were, so I take that into account with all future fiction writing. However, I am going to check out this program. It sounds about like how I use Excel but more professional.
