I had the grand chance of having a small interview with Bobby Crosby, writer of Marry Me and Dreamless, I asked him about his work and what he thinks about stories.
Me: Hi.
Bobby Crosby: Hello.
M: First off I would like to say I enjoy your Marry Me comic.
BC: Thank you. Have you tried Dreamless yet?
M: I'm going to, how many comics do you write for?
BC: Currently, four: www.blatantcomics.com
M: I'll check them out.
BC: I also highly recommend www.nopinkponies.com, which is made by the artist of 'Marry Me'. I hope you like them.
M: How long does it usually take you to write a script for a comic?
BC: Depends on the page in question, it varies greatly. I'm pretty slow in general, though, and I spend lots of time planning out the pages in my head first. It's hard to put a number on it but I'd say something like ten hours per page.
M: That's a long time, when you are writing, or thinking, the script do you go over the details with the artist(s)?
BC: No, I just send them the scripts usually, often with a layout sketch, my scripts are extremely detailed. They are probably more detailed than most other comic writers, some of these scripts goes on for ages.
M: I see, well with so many stories going off in your head how do you keep up with all of them?
BC: Who knows? You just have to focus on one story at a time.
M: That must take a toll on you every once in a while.
BC: It seems harder than it is, I'm sure.
M: Do you have plans or ideas for a new comic?
BC: Yes, lots for new comics. It's just really tough to find artists
M: Have you ever tried or wanted to try a Noir style comic?
BC: I haven't tried yet, I might at some point.
M: I'm sure people recommends a lot of web comics to you, so do you actually read any of them?
BC: Almost none, not a big fan of comics in general.
M: Have you written for any independent films?
BC: No, or at least none that has been made yet.
M: As a writer do you have a certain genre you favor?
BC: No, I don't have a specific type of film, just good ones.
M: Than I guess you must have a hard time when going to movies.
BC: Because most movies suck? Yes.
M: Do you hate the trend of movies being remade or being based off of comics and video games that has been going on for awhile now?
BC: I'm indifferent about it.
M: Do you fell a good story makes a movie or well written characters?
BC: It's tough to have a good story without well written characters, you need both in almost all cases.
M: I'm afraid our time is up, thank you for your time and chatting with me.
BC: No problem.
M: Next time I would like to talk to you about writing.
BC: Sure.
If you are an artist and you are looking for a project Bobby Crosby is currently looking for some new talent.
