Writers Association Hosts Free Reading by Local Authors at Books & Co. Oct 7

BEAVERCREEK, OH - Oct 7 - For one hour on Friday, October 7 th , some of southwestern Ohio's most talented writers will take the microphone to entertain audiences with samples of their short works and poetry. Beginning at 7 PM member authors of the Western Ohio Writers Association (WOWA) will present their popular Beatnik Café event at Books & Co. at The Greene, 4453 Walnut St. in Beavercreek.

Reading aloud from original work, each writer will take the stage to dazzle audiences with short stories, poetry or who knows what. The relaxed, informal format of the live reading pays homage to hole-in-the-wall poetry clubs of the 1960's, but with a more modern style.

The program is presented by the Western Ohio Writers Association in Greene County. The group provides support, education and professional resources for writers in southwest central Ohio, eastern Indiana and northern Kentucky. Writers of all genres and skill levels attend monthly critique and educational meetings where they can have their work reviewed by fellow writers and get feedback.

Gery L. Deer of Jamestown, Ohio is co-founder and coordinator of the organization. Deer is a professional writer, editorial columnist and marketing consultant specializing in promoting the work of self-published authors. He started the WOWA in 2008 when he was making a move from periodical content to longer, creative manuscripts and wanted to get feedback on his work from fellow writers.

Unfortunately, Deer found virtually no such resources anywhere in the region. "Outside of a college class, there was no support available for writers in the Miami Valley and surrounding areas of Ohio and Indiana," Deer said. "The WOWA was intended to provide critique and networking opportunities to local writers of all genres, both amateur and professional." And it must have worked, beginning with just two participants, it now has over 100.

The Western Ohio Writers Association organizes monthly events through the Meetup.com website sponsored by TheConciergeCopywriter.com. The Beatnik Café event is free and open to a public audience.
