Writers Are Fund Raising Via Kickstarter for Trip to Review B&Bs in Alaska

Julia Bodeeb
Jesse and Katie Schmitt are writers who like to have new experiences. For the past several years they have been traveling around the United States to do reviews on tourist destinations. This summer they hope to travel to Alaska to do reviews on bed and breakfast destinations. They are using the website Kickstarter to reach out to find donors who will help them finance the trip to Alaska.

What is your overall goal for the trip to
Alaska ?

Our goal for the trip to Alaska is first to experience Alaska and second to stay at some bed and breakfasts to let people know what we think. We enjoy helping travelers get realistic information about the bed and breakfasts they are considering using on their next vacation.

We have been to bed and breakfasts all over the United States . Some of them have been really amazing and just haven't gotten enough attention. Other bed and breakfasts have big reputations to stand on but kind of slack on many of the details.

Why do you think Alaska is a cool tourist destination?

Alaska is so far removed from the everyday reality of life in the United States . This state is part of the United States and yet so few of us will ever get to see it.

Have you been to Alaska before?

Nope.

Do you know which Bed & Breakfasts in Alaska you will stay at?

We will probably stay in the South Central area of Alaska . However, we are going all the way to Deadhorse ( Prudhoe Bay ), which is about as far north as you can get.

How do you think this trip to Alaska will help you with your life and career?

Hopefully this trip to Alaska will raise awareness about what we do with the "Sleep Here Now" bed and breakfast review project. We hope this project will add new people to the audience for our travel videos.

How do People Donate to the Alaska "Sleep Here Now" Project?

To see the Kickstarter fund raising page for this project and to learn more about the items you will receive if you make a donation to the Alaska trip, go to Jesse and Katie's Kickstarter page, HERE.

Have donors funded your previous trips to write about Bed and Breakfasts?

No, we've never asked for money before. Kickstarter is a new thing for us. If it is successful we may undertake a new project and use Kickstarter again.

Will you try to publish a book about your Alaskan experiences?

Yes!

How will you travel to Alaska ?

We're driving to Alaska . We've been back and forth across the country nine times. It has always been in our trusty 2007 Saturn Ion, which has 135,000 miles at present.

What 5 tips do you have for travelers after visiting so many Bed & Breakfasts and hotels for your "Sleep Here now" articles?

Always stop at a grocery store when you are near your travel destination. This helps you to avoid eating fast food while on vacation. Also, pack light for your trip. And while on vacation, indulge in things that matter and be frugal in other ways. It is also very important to never settle for bad service while traveling. Finally, take the road less traveled. It is far more interesting!
