Writers Guild of America Announces 2012 Film Nominations

Last year, the Writers Guild Awards were relatively close to Oscar winners. While the WGA awarded Christopher Nolan the Best Original Screenplay for "Inception," he did not get the Academy Award. The WGA, did however match up with The Academy on Aaron Sorkin's "The Social Network" and the documentary award for "Inside Job." Here are the WGA nominees for 2012; winners will be announced during the ceremony on Sunday, February 19.

WGA Nominees for Best Original Screenplay:

Will Reiser for his dramatic comedy about a cancer patient, "50/50"

Annie Mumolo & Kristen Wiig for their comedy "Bridesmaids"

Woody Allen for his historical, time travel comedy "Midnight in Paris"

The "Win Win" screenplay by Tom McCarthy and Story by Tom McCarthy & Joe Tiboni

Diablo Cody's comedy "Young Adult"

WGA Nominees for Best Adapted Screenplay:

"The Descendants," by Alexander Payne, Nat Faxon & Jim Rash; from Kaui Hart Hemming's novel.

"The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," by Steven Zaillian; from Stieg Larsson's novel.

"The Help," by Tate Taylor; from Kathryn Stockett's novel.

"Hugo," by John Logan; from on Brian Selznick's children's book.

"Moneyball," by Steven Zaillian & Aaron Sorkin; with a Story by Stan Chervin; from Michael Lewis' book.

WGA Nominees for Best Documentary Screenplay

"Better This World," by Katie Galloway & Kelly Duane de la Vega, about 2 young men from Texas charged with domestic terrorism.

"If a Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation Front," by Marshall Curry and Matthew Hamachek about the controversial environmental group the ELF.

"Nostalgia for the Light," by Patricio Guzmán is a film that juxtaposes astronomers searching the night sky on Chilean mountaintops with woman unearthing human remains in the sand at the foot of the mountains under the hot sun.

"Pina," by Wim Wenders is a 3D film about the German choreographer Pina Bausch.

"Position Among the Stars," by Hetty Naaijkens-Retel Helmrich & Leonard Retel Helmrich is their 3rd film about the Sjamsuddin family living in the slums of Jakarta.

"Senna," by Manish Pandey is about the Brazilian Formula One racing champion Aryton Senna.
