Writers Strike and the Affect on Us
Writers Strike
While I may not like the timing of the WGAs (Writers Guild Association) strike. I do fully support it, and believe the writers should get paid for their creative ideas. The average writer right now gets paid for the scripts they write, and the residuals from a show that reairs or is put in reruns. But with todays high tech advances, We as the consumer have options to buy our favorite shows or movies on dvd, or high def formats. Which the writers get no residuals from. As well as the numerous downloadable content we can get from pay sites like i tunes, or the free downloads from sites like nbc.com where you can watch your favorite episode of Heroes. But even these free sites have advertisements on them which obviously pays for the ability for us to watch them. And while the Television and movie industry is making money off of us for dvd sales and downloads. The writer still makes nothing off of these, The writer who without them there would be no show, only actors sitting in a corner reading a book. Like I said earlier, I dont like the timing of the strike, It will affect some of my favorite shows, like Lost which may only have an eight episode season. or Heroes which while a few weeks into, does not have enough scripts for a whole season. Which will make these seasons end prematurely with us left hanging. But I do wholeheartedly agree with the strike. I think as a dabbler in writing myself, the writers of the shows we all love so much should get money from what they as artists do. A writing position is not so much a permanent job as it is a day to day job, You could be writing for a show that the network thinks will be a hit, and the next thing you know, the show is canceled and your out of work. So I think the networks and bigwigs in the entertainment medium should just accept the fact that they need to pay the writers for their hard work, so that we can end this strike and get back to watching the shows we all love. The writers deserve to have recognition for their hard work and recognition for their art, which is exactly what it is.

You think we would rather have you tell us how we are supposed to cook, act, look and dress your nothing but Communist! This is supposed to be a FREE America where we can be our individual selves. You've taken away an American Family Tradition. Watching our SOAP families has helped us in our dreams, hopes, gave us comfort and an escape for problems we all deal with everyday in this world. I believe people need help in dealing with everyday problems that arise in this world and we have recieved it watching these SOAPS. They do more to help us survive our own lives then you ever will with your do what we want you to do new programs.
