Writing 101: Writing for Beginners

Faith Dosier
I think it quite funny at times how I have been arriving at writing on a topic. I start to type on something generic that I have a good enough interest in an all the sudden something else hits me and the next paragraph that I write is totally unrelated in any way to the paragraph that I have just previously written. That is writing! You are an expert in whatever you are an expert in naturally. You may not know what you're niche is yet but you won't know what it is until you actually start to write.

How to create your own unique writing ritual

For me before I feel that I can really write anything no matter what just as long as I set the mood for myself. Whether it is academic or for work I must get in the mood to write. Whatever it takes to get yourself ready to write you must do it. There is no judgment and you have to do what it takes to succeed at your craft. It is all about you anyway, right? Of course it is. Maybe it isn't for you; maybe it is about the reward after completing your writing. Whatever it is figure it out and hone in on it.

Do you need a glass a wine? Do you need to work out at the gym first; go for a run, yoga? Do whatever it takes and if you need to turn the music on, blow smoke rings, sip on a smoothie, chew on a Krispy Kreme doughnut, have a Frappuccino from Starbucks, Heck just do it but you must set the mood to write but don't be so rigid about it that you can't be adaptable. Focus on being strong on your craft if it is new to you like it is to me. Even at a year in I have some much more to learn and I'm looking forward to it.Now go write and when you write don't get hung up on the style, grammar, spelling or anything because if you do might night ever finish but do speck check okay. If you've ever had that knack for writing I'm sure it will come back to you again with practice. If you've never had it before then that's okay too because you're going to find your own style eventually. It isn't as if you won't make some mistakes no matter if you're a pro or not. Everyone does because it is almost as inevitable that you will make a mistake as the day is long. So just learn to appreciate and to respect them and learn from them but don't let it happen to often. Writing is a process that I think that one is only fully capable of being done well only by someone who is forever willing to adapt and be daring at the same time. At least that's what I think for today. Now Good luck and begin writing as if the wind is literally at your fingertips.
