Writing Articles for a Full Time Job Has Its Benefits But It's Far From Easy

Working from home has its benefits but its far from easy. You have to be very organized and keep track of all your receipts. If you are trying to make a full time income then expect to work more than you used to at your former job at first.

To write articles full time you have to have a lot of time. You need time for research, brainstorming, rough drafts and anything else you need to do in order to produce good content. Working from home gives you the freedom of choosing your own hours but you also have only yourself to rely on to make sure deadlines are met and your financial goals are met. If you don't work then you don't get paid.

You might find that this type of job takes up more time than you expected. With proper organizing you can accomplish all that you need to with time to spare. The trick is to schedule everything from picking your kids up at school to doing research on the internet. Writing all this in a planner will help you immensely.

In order to write well you need to have a good working environment. Keep your desk and work area clean. Act as if you really were in an office and that might prevent your from leaving food, soda cans or huge piles of paper everywhere. Buy folders or a filing cabinet to store all of your papers and important documents in. Always keep track of every source on income.

Filing the right tax form is also important. You will probably be sent a 1099 form from your employer once you get paid between $400 and $600. Associated Content sends these out when you reach $600. It is then your responsibility to pay taxes on that amount. Most people do this with a 1040ES form which you can download at the IRS website.

If writing for AC is your only income then you can either turn your writing into a business or keep it simple and just file with the 1040ES. This form allows you to pay your taxes quarterly. Expect to save 33% of your earnings for state and federal taxes.

Once you start writing full time you will get the hang of how things need to be done. It can be overwhelming for those who are unprepared for the transition. Working for yourself is wonderful but it requires you to be more responsible because you are now doing things that formally your previous employers did for you (like taxes). The phrase "be your own boss" now has a new meaning.
