My aim-"Writing Articles" that will be read for a very long time. I balance out my funny articles with the pillar articles that I write. 5 months from now, I don't want to ask myself, 'Why did I write articles no one reads?'

If this is your aim too, writing articles that are considered as 'Pillar articles' is vital.

Writing articles that fall under the pillar articles category was not an intentional effort on my part.I am no 'Guru' or 'master'. I share only my experiences and things that make sense to me. Writing articles this way will help you too.Look at the bigger picture.

What is a Pillar article?
Pillar articles stay in fashion for a very long time. They are not time dependant and don't relate to current events. Example: 'How to' articles.

'Pillar Article' category: (Writing articles that fall under this category)
Writing articles that fall under the pillar article category will help in the long run.

1- 'How-To' Articles: Writing articles that fall under this pillar articles category have helped me a lot. The article titles don't need to start with 'How to'. They need to be tutorials of some kind. How to Increase Traffic to Old Articles and New Ones?: Writing Essentials 4is doing extremely well. I wrote it just a few days ago. It is my most 'popular' article in such a short time.

Writing articles under this category is a good move, as they last a lifetime. They will bring you views/earnings, so long as the articles are online.

2- Unique/Different Outlook: Writing articles with a unique outlook on interesting subjects is great too. If you have a different take on something, write a pillar article. No matter how old your pillar article gets, people will always be interested in uncommon views.

My rant on Same sex marriages has done surprisingly well. It is more than me saying, 'I am pro-gay rights'. I presented my unique view. If you want to see what I did, check out Same Sex Marriage: Crazy, Random Thoughts in My Head. Writing an article such as this would be considered a pillar article.

Gay rights will always have supporters and protesters. So even a year from now, I know people will read this.

3- 5 Things to Do: Writing articles that are in a list format are good too. Why? Human mind digests it better.

Most internet readers have a very low attention span. So writing articles in a list format, if possible, is a good idea. The article 8 Things Your Orthodontists or Dentists Won't Tell You is still getting a good number of views. If I had not chosen the list approach while writing this article, it would be eight chunks of information on a page. This would not be appealing to the eye or the mind.

4- Jargon specific: Writing articles that discuss definitions related to a specific field do well.

People looking for basics in a specific field will use your article as reference. If you are good at HTML, you can explain simple terms and codes related to it. People having blogs and sites need a list like that. If you are good at photography and use tools online, write about it. Writing articles of this nature help in the long run. If you want immediate gratification, stay clear.

I will be following this up with articles that have not worked for me. I have done some analysis and realize my mistakes now. So you might want to avoid them. (wink).

Wonderful tips, although I have to admit that I have gotten a lot of mileage out of articles that are time-period specific. My best article to date is one about Raleigh charities that needed Thanksgiving volunteers. It's good to experiment to see what works for you!
