Writing for Associated Content: A Family Activity

Daniel Rein
Through my own personal experience writing for Associated Content and through surfing the community board posts from fellow content producers, I have realized that writing can be much more than just a personal experience to get your own thoughts down on paper; it can be a family experience as well. One blog I read had a man and his son writing articles together and I couldn't help but think the same and how my family has contributed to my writing. It has become more of a family activity that has brought my family closer, not further apart from each other. I suspect that many other fellow content producers would like to know how writing can become a family activity that they can share with their loved ones and friends and so here are my tips and methods of writing with my family.

About two or three times a week, my family and I set aside a block of time to write articles for AC. At first we brainstorm for about a half an hour. Each of us which includes my parents and younger brother who is fourteen has a big pad or sheet of paper. We each write down on our pads events from the past week that comes to mind. Then we try and figure out how it can become an article on the writing website. For example, a few weeks ago, we attended a barbeque and so we decided to brainstorm any kind of article that related to a BBQ. During this time period, we also sit around in the living room and discuss each of our topics and how we can make them better. Usually we have a copy written down on scratch paper and then we each take turns editing the article or adding information to the article to increase its value and to make it more interesting to the viewer. Occasionally we add little anecdotes from the family experiences into the articles so that we are able to re-live our past through out articles.

At first it had been a struggle to get my younger brother to write for Associated Content but once he saw that he could make a few dollars to pay for his movies and baseball cards that my parents wouldn't buy him, he decided to use his articles that he wrote in high school to make some money. As a college student, I edited and added to his articles so that it would be on a higher level or reading.

It is rather interesting that my parents, I and my brother all have different opinions of subjects and matters; much like each individual content producer has their own opinions about everything. Yet the diversity of the articles that I have written collectively with my family reaches out to a broad range of people instead of one particular category like sports or politics, both of which are my personal favorites. With the help of my parents, I have written real estate articles such as how to rent a house and what to look for in a house and information about the legal profession.

Each of my family members has access to our account so they can write and submit article or pose questions on the chat boards whenever they have free time.

Writing for Associated Content really has been a great experience for me and my whole family. It has given us some extra money as well as brought my family closer together on a nightly basis. I hope you have the same success as well.
