Editing an article is different from writing one. One mistake many people make right up front is they try and edit while they are writing. If you are not good at typing or spelling you will find that all you do is start and stop and never develop any type of flow to your writing.
Even if you are not a very creative person in the writing you do it becomes frustrating trying to get an article completed. Editing while you write is kind of like stuttering when you talk. It can take a long time to tell one story.
So what you do is you start typing and you edit when you are finished. If you use a handy little tool like Article Notepad you can type your whole article without ever being shown that you are misspelling a word. When you are done you can go back and proofread to make sure you have not left any words out.
Then go to Spellcheck.net and paste your article in and spell check it. Doing it this way will help you keep your emphasis on the quality of the words in your article and not on your ability to type and spell.
We like to say write like you speak. Do you start and stop in the middle od all of your sentences. Probably not, but writing and editing is just like doing that. Now if you are not very strong in English for example you will want to run a Grammar check when you are done as well.
Grammarcheck.com offers free newsletter to help you learn to write better using correct grammar. For less than $100 Whitesmoke.com offers a tremendous program for writing, editing and checking the grammar of your articles.
You can improve your medical writing, business writing, legal writing, creative writing, or get an executive package that includes it all. Grammarcheck.com offers an instan access download to help you start writing and editing right away.
Here is an important point in this article. To be a better writer you need to practice. If you spend more time editing then you do writing you are short changing yourself and your ability to grow as a writer.
This is not to say that editing is not important. An article full of spelling and grammar errors loses it's credibility. You need to make your article presentable. Only then will it be read with an open mind and provide the attention you intended it bring.
These have been a few tips to help you edit and write a better article, but not in that order. The next time you sit down to write give that 100% first and then turn your attention to editing. Separating the two will help you enjoy writing all the more.
