Writing Great Website Content

John Messina
With so much information on the web, people expect to find information fast and relevant to what they are looking for. Therefore the content you write must be easy to read and easy to navigate to.

Your article content needs to be checked for spelling errors, good grammar and clean and easy to read font size. Break up your content into small paragraphs so that it is easy to read. Subtitle your paragraphs, if appropriate, so that the reader can quickly scan through your article and find what they are looking for.

Always write content relevant to what your article is about and get straight to the point. The first paragraph of your article is critical and if you don't keep your readers attention past the first paragraph you've lost them. Your reader will just move on to the next search result.

If you can hold your readers attention through the entire article, then you have a good chance they will bookmark your site. I know if I find a website that has relevant content to what I am looking for; I will bookmark the site for future reference.

Only links should be underlined. Don't underline words to make them stand out as this can confuse a reader in making them think they are a link. Only words referencing another website should appear underlined. Also make sure that the URL is imbedded with the word. If you need a word to stand out just make it bold.

Use words that people will search for. Search engines take into account headings, bold words and links that are relevant to the content that you are writing about. Using many relevant keyword phrases and links will definitely put your article up in ranking in the major search engines.

Use white space in your content. Break up your content into small paragraphs so that the page of your article looks less crowded and easier to read. With large paragraphs everything appears blended together which makes it a lot more difficult to read.

Use your own content. Write web content that you know about. This can be articles that apply to your profession or information you have researched. Keep updated on popular website content and become familiar what people want to read about.

Promote your website content. Promote your content to search engines, blogs, social networks and even discussion groups. Have your homepage URL as part of your email signature. The more you get it out there the more visits you will receive.
