Notice period

Do you have to give notice? If you signed an employment contract you most likely are legally committed to a contractual notice period. Go through your employment contract and ensure you provide the necessary notice. This is usually two weeks however if your contract states a longer time period you are legally obliged to provide this. Even if you are not contractually tied to a notice period, giving notice is usually advisable. It is a matter of professionalism - you are allowing the employer to prepare for your departure and creating the right atmosphere in which to exit the company.

What to include

The minimum information a letter of resignation should have includes the title of the position from which you are resigning, the date from which your resignation is effective and the date of your last working day.
