Writing for Money: Coming Up with Good Topics

It isn't really about writer's block for me; that's a whole different subject. What I mean is coming up with good topics when you write online for a living. If you have a specific niche, that's great. But like me, many of us don't have a niche. I write about anything and everything.

So what do you do when your article library seems full? After you've written about "everything" already, where do you go from there? It's actually not as hard as it seems.

The first thing I do when I've run out of ideas is to look back through my older articles. I chose something that has had good earings or page views in the past.

I re-read the article, and usually can come up with at least a few ideas that either expand on the old subject, or go further into depth.

I can also do further research and studying on the profitable topic for ideas I never would have thought of.

I also like to look at my own personal interests for new article topics. If I'm learning a new art technique, article ideas will flow like crazy. I just have to remember to jot the ideas while they're fresh in my mind, and write them later when I'm in the mood for article writing.

When I'm looking for new writing topics, I also like to peruse the Internet, forums and article writing sites, for new ideas. I can almost always come up with list of dozens of new ideas to look into. I usually have an ongoing master list of several hundred ideas, and when I'm in the writing moos, I can look over the list and normally find at least a few things that interest me enough to write about.

Usually I will choose five or so topics, and If I can come up with a good title, the article will usually practically write itself.

That's another thing, I write about easy stuff that I already know enough about to fill up an entire article. If not, I will skip the topic until I do. I rarely do research for a specific topic, unless I already was interested enough to read about it in the first place.
