Writing Ruts

Personal Journey Out of the Rut

Leslie Reese, Nutritional Educator
I get stuck in writing ruts. Now granted, writing is nothing that I thought I would do for pleasure. I started out of curiosity and it has grown from there. I got caught up in making sure I produced educational content because I thought that's what everyone would want to read. My primary interest, if you look at my profile, is Health and Wellness related topics.

As I get more active, and trying to be an active reader, I have realized that I enjoy reading non-educational pieces just as much as the educational ones. It helps me to be able to identify with the producer, and I actually look forward to their content more.

So, why would I not expand my own horizons? I have a life outside of writing for AC and experiences that could be perhaps shared with others. I just produced my first 'personal' piece of content about starting my daughter's Journey to Womanhood.

I had fun writing this piece. This is a story that I have shared with a few people and it always makes them laugh the same way it did me, and honestly I still laugh about it.

I am trying to find my way out of my rut.

Things to Write About:

Parenting

I am a parent and that is the primary focus of my life. I can share stories and adventures as well as share lessons learned that may help other parents.

Interests

I look up things on the internet daily. It hit me that, if this is something that I am taking the time to look up and research, there are probably others that would like this information as well. Forewarning, these are random.

Health and Wellness

I have some personal experience through either myself, family members, and/or friends. The deep research that I am doing for some of my Featured Contributor pieces does not have to occur on all my articles.

Local Content

I am all over town and love to try new things. Why not share my opinions with others?

These are just some ideas that I have, and I hope my fans will embrace my 'thinking outside of the box'.

Writer's block is never fun. Yeah, gotta keep your mind open for a variety of subjects. If you are interested, I always do comment for comment. You view all the pages of one of my articles and leave a small comment to let me know you were there and I'll come and view all the pages of one of your articles to let you know I was there. We know by the comment. Often my comments have to be just copy and paste or very short, but I'm still reading your content.
