Writing a Tribute to Mom

Put into Words How You Feel About Your Mother

JC
Few people will fail to acknowledge the presence of a wonderful, caring mother or mother-figure in their formative years whom they remember fondly each Mother's Day. Many of us spend countless hours searching for the perfect Mother's Day gift or searching through dozens of Mother's Day cards to find one that expresses best how we feel about our mother.

One of the most unique and time-honored gifts that could be given to a mom for Mother's Day is an original written poem, letter, or tribute. You don't have to be a professional writer to put down on paper how you feel about your mother. Still, many people find themselves staring at a blank sheet of paper, not knowing where to start.

Keepin in mind that anything you tell your mother that comes from is open and honest, and contains personal experiences and feelings is going to be treasured for years to come. It does not have to be long or eloquent, it just needs to be from the heart. Here are some ideas to help you get started writing that personal Mother's Day tribute that will bring tears to mom's eyes this Mother's Day:

1. Share your earliest memories of times spent with your mom.

2. Thank her for the little things that she did for you while growing up.

3. List her virtues and talents that you most admire.

4. Recount ways that her advice has helped you in the past and during the present.

5. If you are a parent share things that you do for your children because she did them for you.

6. Most importantly, express your love!

The Mother I Knew

I knew a mother
Soft-spoken and kind
Who showed me her patience
In spite of all my faults.

I knew a mother
Humble and beautiful
Who taught me modesty
And how to be a true friend.

I knew a mother
Hard-working and strong
Who taught me the value of work
And never left a job undone.

I knew a mother
Faithful and generous
Who showed me how to pray
Especially when times are tough.
