For $200.00 you can purchase the software, download it from the site, or have the company send you the CD and complete the graphic design production for yourself using the software on your home computer.
I highly rate the product because after a quick set up, it's very easy to work on the book cover. Within five to ten minutes you can easily begin designing your own book cover.
What's the skinny?
It's easy to use. Easy to set up. You can use the background templates they provide on the site at www.bookcoverpro.com or you can drag and drop jpeg or tiff files into your book cover pro template so you can begin designing the book cover. Within the template, you can enter text and customize the size of the book, by placing the dimensions on the appropriate section. Make sure you get the size dimensions from your printer on the spine size and enter that as well as the ISBN number on the template so that will be generated within the book cover.
Play around with the text on the front cover, back cover, and spine to your liking. Once that is done, save as a "pdf' file and let others look at your work.
If you are not sure of what will work on the front cover or the back, look at other books you may have bought before and look at the layout on the covers. Find what you'd like to replicate.
What happens after the initial formatting?
You should save the initial file and then as a pdf file. Keep toying around with the cover until you are satisfied, and then, send the cover with your file to the printer. Many printers do take pdf files for book productions. But before you send any file, ask for the company (Printer's) specific formatting instructions so you can match up. If you are uploading on Lightning Source, Inc., they do have an online section for Book Designers, go to that area, and read up on the specific requirements for spine and interior files. Match up and then submit your book for printing.

Post a Commentso glad i read these comments...now i'm not buying the software..
I purchased BCP earlier this year. I have been able to design and print two simple book covers so far (not lightning source). I haven't been able to get a response from customer services (except for an automated response). Does anyone know how to show the bleed marks when generating a PDF? When I tick 'print bleed marks' neither the bleed marks nor the bleed area show in the PDF! Can anyone help me please? Many thanks
Sorry. Spine width is .471. Pages 192. Book 6x9. In BookcoverPro I put the total width at 12.25 + spine width and then height at 9.25.
I need help. A few days ago, I thought I had this figured out and uploaded the cover. LSI said it was still too small and now I am at the point where they are going to charge me $40 for any future revisions. I cannot for the life of me figure out where I am going wrong with this. My book is 192 pages. Spine width is .441. 6x9 book. I used Adobe Pro to create digital file.
I never had any issue with the product. I have published many of my personal titles through Lightning Source and other printers. I even uploaded my covers on lulu.com so sorry others may be experiencing issues with the product, i am not a 'spokes person' for Book Cover Pro but to the day, I still have helped others who have published their own own. For Margaret, you need to format your book specifically the way LS asks you to. And you need to go back to your book cover pro software and match book specs. if you still need help, let me know. It's fairly easy to do...
I purchased this software. In the beginning, I couldn't download the free template there was an error. It took a few days to get that fixed.
The support team is non-existent.
If you buy the software you are on your own.
I purchased the software and am trying to use it with Lightning Source to no avail. To the person that figured out how to use BCP with Lightning Source, could you share some of your insight. Pretty please!
I really liked the covers I designed with Book Cover Pro, but unfortunately I wasn't able to make any of them output properly with Lightning Source. A month of emails and calls to BCP resulted in no help whatsoever. One thing did work..I used my BCP cover design as a roadmap to a cover I did with LSI's feeble template in another layout program and I did get a good looking cover that output properly. If you already own BCP, use it for design ideas because some of their templates are pretty good. Don't count on LSI useability, though.
I agree with you Brandy. Furthermore, not only is a Customer Svc team NON-EXISTENT, many customers have complained including me that we NEVER received the CD that we purchased and the online version is now USELESS because the username and passwords have been deactivated making the online version inaccessible.
I read the reviews posted here and opted NOT to buy this software...
